So I come home and my wife is freaking out and that spider has her pinned at the top of the stairs screaming. I have it trapped in a plastic bag but my pictures don't do it as much justice as the one I found online. It is this spider to a T. I am getting conflicting stories on what it is. Do any of you know what it is?

dotted wolf spider, so you're safe. You really only have to worry about a brown recluse, hobo, or black widow.

It's an Australian Funnel Web Spider, deadliest spider on earth. I hate to tell you but they are so poison that just looking at one means you're already poisoned and probably have less than 24 hours to get treatment or your thingy will fall off.

Oh, my mistake, I see it better now, yeah it's a common wolf spider, you're good.

Yeah, I once had an encounter with one while snipe hunting in the outback. Luckily there was an aboriginal shaman handy.

This. A brown recluse nearly cost me my left arm. Several days in the hospital and 16 stitches later an they were able to get all of that junk out.

You dont have to worry about that wolf spider. They are harmless.

Yeah, a work buddy of mine nearly died from a brownie bite between his shoulder blades. He had to get skin grafts off his rear end to cover the wound. He lives near Lockport IL; and he had an infestation in his attic.

The so-called "experts" say this area is outside of brown recluses range, but that is pure BS. Every year I find several in my garage and/or basement, and now I fumigate every spring, summer, and late fall as a precautionary measure.

    FTR, I blame Obama.

They're just trying to get warm! I have about 2-4 of them coming in every day. They try to sneak in the kitchen when I open the front door (off the porch). Caught one yesterday under the coffee table. I'm glad I'm not afraid of them!

Okay spidey experts, what kind of wolf spider is this? (Is it even a wolf spider? ) It was very big. Like small tarantula size.

He had big eyes and pointy legs unlike our tarantulas. I thought it was a tarantula at first.

Here's a tarantula I found the other day for comparison.

Yep, I'm sure that's it. We had a lighter colored version of that where I grew up in Missouri. While I usually won't kill spiders unless they're in the house, I hate the little buggers.

Once when I was a young teenager I was cleaning rabbits after a hunt. I kept feeling something on my shin, so I raised my pants leg and it was a giant wolf spider - ON MY LEG! I'm tellin you - I lost my freaking mind, jumping around and screaming like a little girl. My younger sister was actually rolling on the ground laughing at me. She still likes to remind me about that. It wasn't one of my finer moments.

Also, don't you just love walking to your stand in the dark, light shining on the ground to see where you're stepping and walking right into a big orb weaver web? You know that somewhere in the mess stuck all over your head and shoulders there's a big, fat, creepy looking spider.
