We had a great Grouse Camp 2014 last week up near the Michigan/Wisconsin boarder in the national forest. Great weather being in the high 20's- low 30's at night and mid 40's during the day. Thought I would share a couple of pictures of our week.

We shot 11 birds total for the camp which is about average. Woodcock were in flight but we concentrated on the grouse more.

Wolfs were very close to us several times as my dog kept barking at them drawing them in. We had to yell loud a couple of times to get them to back off as they kept getting closer.

I was not able to get a picture but I saw my first wild albino deer crossing the road while driving in the forest.

    Pulling into the wilderness area.

This is the logging road leading to the open area we camp. We had to do some trimming to get through this year.

First thing we did is gather some firewood and split it.

Then we got camp set up.

Some scenery as we were out driving around looking for places to hunt and exploring.

Once in awhile you run into one on the road. We got pretty close to this grouse before it flushed.

We had some damn good food.

    Good times

The dog had it pretty good at night after a long day of hunting.

Looks like you had a good time but for me looks like a lot of work for a few grouse.

Sounds like it was a good time - and from the food in the pictures, looks like it was successful. Grouse is delicious!

    Beautiful dog!

It is a lot of work for a few grouse. There is more to grouse camp than killing grouse. We chase them and the grouse usually win. We also don't road hunt like some hacks do.

We have had wolfs close to camp many times before but usually they keep their distance. This year my pooch who is only a 1.5 years old seems to think barking a lot every time they howl is a good idea. So the wolfs keep moving in closer. Nothing like having to yell at the top of your lungs outside at 3am. After that the wolfs went quiet for a while I can only guess moved on when they realized a human was there. Needless to say we didn't let the dog wander out of sight at camp at all.

Those stinking wolfs killed a bear dog just up the road not too long ago. .

That is the thing about grouse they taste so good because if you do it the right way you have to work your tail off to get a good meal, hate the road hunters and the clowns who shoot off atvs

Any chance you can let me know where you were. Wolf season opened today. All my traps are out but my area closed in 5 days last year. I could use a back up plan
