So while me and my dog were pheasant hunting last year and he stuck his head in a raccoon burrow/den. Needless to say it did it end well for him. He needed up getting in a real nasty fight with 2 big raccoons. The worst was I had my shotgun and couldn't do anything for fear of hitting him. He had extensive lacerations and cuts on his head. This was back in December so his head is all scared over now. But my question is, will his hair grow back? It's been almost 10 months now?
To my knowledge, the hair will not grow back. The skin on dogs is similar in nature to humans, so when they receive a scar, that is all that will be visible.
I believe, if like a horse, if you put a drawing sav on it right away (and keep it on) the hair would grow back...however - 10 months I'd venture to say it's not going to. Hopefully he's not that curious anymore!
Definitely way more cautious, but still curious. It is definitely coming in a little, but very slowly.
Almost looks like it might have gotten ''mage'', a type of fungus that I see all the time on dogs in third world countries that makes them loose their hairs. Ask the vet, if that's the case, there are medications for that and the hairs will grow back... Guy I work with brought a mutt from Brazil that had almost no hair left from that infection (see pic) and it all grew back after a while. Raccoons do carry a lot of diseases... Good luck
100% positive it isn't mange. Went to the vet and he is in perfect physical condition minus the hair.and he's up to date on all vaccines
As said, I don't think it'll grow back in the scars. My lab was a pound dog that had been tied up, had rope burn on her neck before we got her, still a bald spot under her collar. ~Bill
I doubt it will grow back. My dog I lost in February hit a piece of sheet metal when she was a puppy and got a nasty gouge on her forehead and it left a scar that the hair never did grow in.
