Best walk off single in the history of baseball! Class act his entire career. One of the few athletes you would want your kids to do it the way he did. Thanks for the memories #2.

In a regular game that probably wouldn't have happened. The Os have 3-4 relief pitchers that would've been put in before Meek.

But good for Jeter for getting that hit, had one hell of a career.

As a die hard Red Sox fan I have to tip my hat to Jeter... always a true class act... a model of the sport. A classy dude with a hall of fame career. And so another era ends. I love that he gets to end his career at Fenway as well.. and the Boston faithful will give him the much earned resepect he deserves.

Jeter is a fine person who had a truly great Hall of Fame career.

    He certainly deserves much respect.

Yep. Class act all around. As a Red Sox fan, I was very happy for him. Hopefully he gets a great send off at Fenway.

He was a great role model for the kids to look up to. Farewell Captain!

Couldn't agree more. So glad we won't have to put up with another Yankees farewell tour next year. Between Rivera last year and Jeter this year, it's enough to make me sick. Announcing your retirement before the season is an attention grab, pure and simple.

All of this could very well be true. However, name another short stop with five WS Rings in the last 50 years. Name one who came threw in the clutch so many times. Name one who is a better person or role model....

.... we won't see many 20 year career players with one team and more class. I will miss Derek Jeter and so will baseball!

Jeter was a one of a kind in an era of baseball when it seems every player is chasing his next big contract, shopping his skills around the league looking to make a few million more, he was consistently one of the best shortstops and a consistent hitter for nearly his entire 20yrs. He played the game hard, played the game with class, and in the end, he has been given a great deal of respect from other teams around the league, because he DESERVED it.

Name another short stop that played for a team with a payroll 3-4 times that of most other baseball teams. Nothing against Jeter, but if he were playing for a different team he would be thought of as a very good short stop, but nowhere near the legendary status he has been given.

Bet you if he came up with the Pirates or Indians he wouldn't have played his whole career with one team. It's easy to stay with the same team, when they're the richest club in the big leagues.

Just to be clear on my opinion, the Yankees can suck it! Watched too many of our you stud players come up and play out their contracts only to go to teams like the Yankees. Playing for the Yankees is the easiest job in all of baseball.

Not that another thread needs derailed, but it's not really an argument of whether he was the greatest of all time. He was the face of an organization in a sport that many young kids partake in and watch. He played with class, which to me, is the most important thing of all. He set a good example for kids that looked up to him. That has become a rarity these days.

I'm not a Yankee fan by any means, but he has my respect for his attitude and the way he played the sport.

I'm also a huge Cal fan for the same reason.
