Gimme a break, can't stand um. 30 minutes long 23 minutes of them trying to sell me something whether, commercials, shameless plugs, or product placements. 6 minutes of them passing on animals I would harvest in a heartbeat. 1 minute of trophy time. They do none of their own leg work, if it's even done. Show I just watched they didn't even trim a shooting lane. Someone come grab my remote! Sorry just needed to vent,13 more days till season opens.
Yea some of these "hunters" are pretty sad. Nothing but tv show hosts that know how to shoot a bow or gun.
Me and my brother sit around and make fun of how terrible the shows are today while watching them all the time. Now...ive done some filming. And it isnt easy. Alot of these guys do deserve some credit for what they do. But for the amount of money these guys have to spend in order to air their show...I expect more.
I try to watch them but normally after the first few minutes I fall a sleep on the couch. Then the wife comes in and shuts the tv off. If I do manage to stay awake... I always laugh when they use bait and hid it behind a dead branch out in the field and brag how they patterned this big old buck and spend hours and hours scouting, patterning and hunting him. It just always amazes me how the herd of deer like standing right behind the branch nibbling. Come on... how stupid do you think we are. Tim
The thing that bugs me the most is how hunting is represented on the TV also how many hunters tend to emulate what they see on TV.
Sure, some are horrible. But there are quite a few good ones. I really enjoy the Drury outdoors guys. They know what they are doing and really do their own work to get it done. Heartland bowhunter is good as well
While I've seen a few bad ones in my day most of the time there's a handful of product placements or mentions in most shows. It may total 1-2 minutes yet most folks cry foul like they're watching QVC. A bit of an exaggeration IMO. This one I can agree on. It's tough to watch guys pass animals that most people would love to shoot and be very nonchalant about it. That's what typically turns me off from a TV show. I see no problem with that. Nobody wants to see someone talking over a deer animal for much more than that. Most of them are doing their own legwork but they simply don't have time to show it. People want to watch hunting, not tree trimming. Don't give up the remote! How are you going to change the channel from these horrible shows that you're being forced to watch?? 15 days until the season opens. I'll be out with my camera documenting my shooting lane trimming so nobody gets mad at me.
I stopped watching hunting shows about 3 years ago. Too much BS just like most reality TV today. I do enjoy BHOD.
There are some really really good hunting shows out these days, and there are some terrible ones. Simple answer is to not watch the terrible ones. I'ts been said on here over and over but Heartland Bowhunters, Hallowed Ground and Midwest Whitetail are excellent in their own ways. Midwest Whitetail has a lot more of the planning, strategies, and execution of those strategies. Heartland Bowhunters and Hallowed Ground has some amazing cinematography to go along with some really good hunting. Honestly both of those shows could pass for mainstream entertainment just because of the cinematography alone. Unfortunately if it wasn't for the sponsors, there wouldn't be a show so we have to endure the sales pitch. It's just part of the game, there's no way around it.
Every film crew I have heard talk, the first thing they bring up is how much content they have to cut out, and how there's never enough time to show everything that goes on. A seven day hunt has to be turned into a 23 minute hunt which, as you can imagine, cuts out a lot of good content. Some prefer the outfitters but there's still plenty that do their own work, so having that generalization is unfair. Nobody wants to spend a couple of hours a day watching one hunting show do everything. I dont know about you but I dont have that kind of time.
That's why I stick to watching BHOD and Heartland Bowhunters! A) Better shows B) Can watch them online/podcast since I turned cable off several months back!
I like the show called raised hunting it's a family that hunts togeather it's a good show Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I would take the time to watch a few hour long hunting show provided it was well made with quality content. A legend of a buck that has been chased for years. Show the encounters and misses, talk about tactics, why stand locations were chosen etc. Could make for a great "movie"
Wait a second... You're telling me I can kill deer without buying all of the latest and greatest gear that I see on the hunting shows and during their commercials?! #sarcasm
Who cares about a little product placement, welcome to free marketing! I'm talking about the quality of the show.
Agreed. I think, the continuous over use of product placement turns a show into a commercial. But, I get it, without advertisers and sponsors, there would be a lot less available programming (bad or good). What I hate more than the commercialism are the 'Smoked em' reactions and comments when it was a marginal shot (at best). ~Bill
