Not sure how many people are following this, but TJ Lane, the teenager who shot and killed 3 students and wounded 2 more at Chardon High School here in Ohio escaped from a prison in Lima, Ohio at 745pm ET tonight.

My scanner app shows 15,000 people listening to the Allen County Public Safety channel right now.

The police are literally doing deer drives for humans in the surrounding woods.

My question is, how does this happen in 2014? With all the technology available, how do 3 (now 2) people without supplies/gear/pretty much anything just disappear from a prison?

That sucks to hear. Most of the time, human error is what leads to this happening. A certain chain of events has to happen to enable a person to escape. I have some experience in this field, (on the good side). Inmates have 24x7 to watch us, our tendencies and exploit our weaknesses. Then know just about everything we do, and with a little luck, sometimes it happens. Technology is only as good as the people who use it. Hopefully he's not gone for long. IMO, Alcatraz should be refurbished and brought back. Only 3 ever escaped there, maybe.

The reports stated the guards found a hole in the "fences" and saw 3 inmates running away. One was caught.

I saw a tweet about it but haven't really checked up on it. It's impressive and sad that someone is able to break out of prison. I'll probably read up on it a little more now.

You'll see eventually a chain of events lead to their escape. However you have no idea how resourceful these guys can be and to what lengths they will go to accomplish something. I know they didn't cut through the fence with a plastic spoon. We have a body scanner here and use it every day. It's like a quick x-ray and we find things hidden all the time!

Hopefully he flees across a major highway and is run over by a semi truck.

He was captured less than 100 yards from the fence armed with a pitchfork.

Why wasn't this smug moron taken care of in prison already? Jeez.

    Glad he was caught.

He wasn't even in maximum security! I'd be willing to bet he will be from now on.

Too bad they didn't use the pitchfork as an excuse that he was armed and dangerous and pop a cap in him.

I lived in Lima for 8 years. I was listening to the scanner when they caught him.

Should've put a couple rounds in him and saved some taxpayer dollars.

Any murderer is bad, but TJ Lane is the lowest of the low. At his sentencing he wore a shirt that said "Killer" on it. Then flipped off the victims families and said some absolutely sick things to them.
