While back I posted some pic of pmags I tried camo painting and was talking bout doin my rifle. Well yesterday and today finally went ahead and did it. Think it turned out alright if had to do it over would of found a different shade of brown. The stuff I used is called earth brown but it's a pretty dark shade and almost purple looking. Anyway here's some before and after pics. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
Yea I plan on doing it too. Put the base coat on the stock first then before doing the stripping I put base on barrel and scope but forgot bipod. So just got everything done had ready and I'll go back later. Got some scope covers too I might do. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
That's the first time I've ever done it, on a full rifle anyway. I was worried to actually but finally just said screw it. Once ya get goin on it it's not all that bad. Thanks everybody else. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
Looks good Now to put a nice thick clear coat on it to seal it all in on a serious note, is the paint fairly durable as is? Never considered paint since dipping is available anymore
Curious as to what type of paint you've used and if you plan on a tough matte or gloss finishing coat? At the range we've seen some awesome and not so awesome paint jobs come in a year or two later.
I really couldn't honestly say how durable it will be with this being my first attempt. From everywhere I've read it seems like it is but will have to wait and see. Thought about dipping it after I found a place close to home that does it. Woulda cost around 200 for the entire rifle and scope, which wasn't bad I didn't think, but wanted to try this first. If it doesn't really hold up or I find don't like it later may go have it done. The paint I used was the camo line of rustoleum. I really haven't given much thought into any kind of clear coat. Still kind of debating that bit of I do I will most likely go with a non gloss type. In all reality though if it does start to wear bad I will probably just clean it off and hit it again. Yea I got an old ML I did a snow camo job on but like an idiot didn't do due diligence in making sure no paint got in the bolt and trigger area....siezed it. Gotta take apart and strip it...but never use the gun so no biggy (got a T/C Impact I use if any ML).
Yea I was pretty worried about the chamber and trigger area. So I just taped it all off and only painted from the chamber forward on the barrel. That was only thing I kept thinking about if tried painting around bolt and chamber was that it would get seized up ha. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
Thanks for all the compliments guys, I'm pretty happy the way it turned out. After looking at it for a few days it's really starting to grow on me. Just about the only thing that bothers me is my little bit of OCD kicks in and wish woulda lined up the barrel better on the stock so the colors match up ha. But just wanted to say thanks for compliments and suggestions. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
Looks great. Did you etch the metal with chemical first to get the paint to adhere? Primer? If not, I think you will want to put a matte finish sealer on it. Nice work!
