Anybody on here wheel? What do you take out when you go hunting?

My friends are massively into both, I on the other hand didn't buy a real offroad capable vehicle. So I was looking at a cheap alternative. Something reliable offroad, wheelin', hunting, anything off pavement.

Share yours stories if you got them

Well, I own a wrx lol. Got my hunting license before I bought it so I was looking for a truck, time went by and I got a 2013 wrx last summer. Highly regret it now when a dude my family bought 3 cars from (nissan) would have given me a 2012 Pro-4x frontier loaded for 20k with 6 miles. I was looking to either trade it, or get a rig to go wheeling with/hunt with. So would need to be a truck.

Those samurais are the quintessential offroad monster. Nobody would ever think to build that but it's arguably one of THE best platforms. Goodluck!

You should be able to find a toyota Tacoma fairly cheap, if you can afford it. Toyota has the best after market support next to jeep, and they are a really easy platform to start with.

Tacomas don't come cheap, new or used. Unless you find someone who doesn't know why they have.

Or a t100, which sells for double what its worth. Tacomas, off road worth trd offroad tacomas within the last 8 years probably have dropped in price around 7 grand from buying new. So its still fairly expensive as a second vehicle and for its technology and oldness. Ill wait and check out the new canyon and colorado this fall

I looked at buying a used 09 Tacoma with 74k miles on it and it was still 24k Tacomas hold value.

I have a 01 Jeep TJ that I've wheeled pretty hard.

This was taken a few years ago. It's now a lot more capable. Unfortunately, I wont have her much longer. I don't get to wheel like I used too. Plus my interest has changed back to muscle cars.

'13 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 3.73s, limited slip
    35" BFG T/A KM2s
    3" TeraFlex lift
ACE Engineering front/rear bumpers and siderails

wheels like a boss....or so I hope! Haven't taken it into anything crazy yet. I used to w/ my '02 TJ which was pretty well built.
This is her right off the showroom floor.

I like to wheel almost as much as hunt. Had a really nice Jeep and hated it, wheel a Geo Tracker now and love that little thing. Plan to build a full on tubed out Crawler soon, been gathering up parts for a year. One day I will have a Bouncer, Smith or Coleworx chassis, 6.0 with 60 front & 14 bolt rear. Its on my bucket list, lol.

I wheeled my last xj (jeep cherokee) so hard for so long none of the doors would shut anymore. The problem is the unibody with the xj.

Used to. Once Paragon closed, there was only one pay to play wheeling Park in PA, everywhere else was either illegal or lame. Too expensive of a hobby, so I sold it to a guy in Virginia Beach who was going to give it to his son whom I can only assume ruined it :D

LOl, The Jeep I had was nice, 2000 TJ, 6" lift, 36" Swampers, Detroits both ends, SYE and a bunch of other mods. Was slow, rode like a tank and wouldnt climb near as well as my Geo. Only time an average lifted Jeep can out do my little Geo is in deep mud. When it comes to climbing I can make most of the local Jeepers shake their heads. Communist, lol. My Geo is also my hunting vehicle, quiet, can fit my climber & bow case in the back, legal on the road, 30 MPG with heat and air. So much better for me than a Jeep or Side x side (Can-Am Commander) which I also have.

yeah, you had too much into it. Stick w/ 4.11-4.56s and under, 35s and a 2-3" lift and the drive and ride is waaaay better. Plus much lighter. But you're right; you'll never see anywhere near 30mpgs in a Jeep...Be lucky to get half that.

I have been thinking that building a Tracker or Samy would be better than buying a side by side as a hunting rig.
