I have an itch to buy a new gun and the carbines have caught my eye. Anyone have one and if so, what are you shooting?
First to make any recommendations there are carbines in the semi-auto category and the lever action category of pistol caliber carbines...which one you want?
Price range is big factor. Honestly, if you are looking for something practical, consistently will go boom and doesn't cost much a pistol carbine is the only time I really recommend a Hi-Point....but don't get a gen 1. The gun shop sells these things faster than they come in...and until we got one at the range I figured it was just the price point but the little UGLY chunks can shoot and shoot well. Big downside is their looks and their limited magazine capacity. Heard 50/50 reviews on the Just Right Carbines (they do take Glock mags)....the Kel-Tec Sub2000 is a pretty slick gun and the fact it collapses is a bonus depending on use and affordable.....Caracal (sp?) hit the market around 2013 and I've only known of one guy own one and hated it. Ruger mini-14 is a fail safe one. Pretty much all I got to offer.
I have a lever 44 but would really like to find a Ruger 10-44 at some point . Don't know that I would hunt with it but would take it over any other rifle as it would shoot the same ammo as the pistol that I hunt with .
I want a lever .44 sooo bad...... Ty, never seen any issues with the Hi-points? I've had a couple... both complete POS
I have a hi point pistol. No complaints, but I only spent $100 on it. Sets the quality expectation bar pretty low.
What caliber? We've only had the 9mm and 45 carbines at the shop/range. I did leave off that we stay away from the .40 ones due to some rumored issues. The biggest mistake people try to do with them is use the extended mags but no company actually makes ones designed for the carbines and it damages it and causes failure to feeds.
Exactly...I will be adding one to the boat as the boat gun once boat is done and ready for water....but things are ugly, sometimes finnicky with ammo and all around rough...but will go bang.
9mm thing wouldn't feed reliably EVER! Jam after jam after jam, not to mention that it sounded like it had loose pieces rolling around in it and that was right out of the box. I kinda swore em off after that. Had a buddy that bought a .40 Hi-point (pistol) cause he was jealous of my Glock lol first clip (think it was third shot) whole friggin slide blew off and caught him in the forehead......
Want one to go with my Super Blackhawk in .44, then ofcourse I'd probably have to also find one in .357, don't want it to feel left out...... Maybe one day
I have the Kel Tec Sub 9, they were the original folding carbine and aluminum receivers before switching to composite with the Sub 2000. Here is an old pic with around 300 rounds and with a Glock 17. Since then I have added a rail and forward grip and also have a light attached to it. I used to have a laser and light combo but took it off.
I just use a 11.5 AR pistol build. Of course it's in 5.56, used to have a 9.5 in 300blk. But ammo got real hard to come by. I never had a problem with either hitting at 300 yards as well. You could also get one chambered in 9mm
the kel tecs shoot pretty good too. Some decent youtube vids on them. You could also go with a 9mm conversion kit on an AR platform if you want to spend some coin. A guy I work with has a Beretta .40 carbine. I don't know how reliable it is (it's a Beretta I'm sure it's pretty good) but I do know it shoots pretty nice. I think he got it for around $700 which is somewhat comparable to the kel tecs. ***just saw on CTD they have the Beretta CX4 .45 ACP for $576 - that's a freaking steal!
I just bought a 10" upper for my AR. It's a mutt upper. Got it from a friend for 300$ shoots nice on my rock river lower.
