My kids and I run a few Duke dog proofs around the house to get rid of some coons. They are cheap and easy to set, would be a good way to start out.

I got 2 foot pedals and that's it. I want to start with coons muskrats and mink, but I have no fleshing knives or stretchers or beams but I was wondering if that was worth it because people have told me that green pelts are only a dollar cheaper. That cant be right

Buyers may vary in prices, but even 30+ years ago when I was fleshing and stretching, my buyer was buying most green. When you figure what your time costs per pelt, green may be the way to go.

But if you want to learn, get a few stretchers and a good knife and you can probably get by.

I used to have a couple dozen 110s for muskrats and a bunch of 2 double coil springs and 220s for coons and fox.

Trapperman.com has a lot of info. I'm slowly learning how to trap, just so much to do in the fall and so little time.

Check out Hoosier Trapper Supply, their a local family run shop that will help you out tremendously with any questions you need to know. They've always been great to me and will help you out with trap selection for whatever your going after. zTrapping isn't hard if you take your time and learn the right way to do it and its a ton of fun.

Minnesota Brand Traps or Sleepy Creek are the way to go for buying traps, their a lot more durable than most out there. You wouldn't think about a trap being destuctable but once and animal gets into it they can do some major damage to them(mainly for land animals). Once you get into Body Grip Traps(Conibears) it doesn't really matter because they either break a neck or spine usually, if not they choke them out very fast. Hope this stuff helps!

are you thinking to trap for profit or trap more just for fun and make a few bucks (literally a few bucks) ... Trapping rats and trapping coons and minks are all totally different things. Whatever animal you want to trap first I would research that first and go from there. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but like hunting, strategy for trapping will vary on the animal you are going for.
