Ok we have some stuff to get rid of and my son helped me set up an Ebay and PayPal account. I have no idea what I am doing... any advice?

I did call Pay Pal to make sure I don't have to give them my bank account numbers... they will send me a check for anything we sell. (I don't give companies access to my account... heard too many horror stories.)

Anyway... any good experienced advice would be appreciated.

You can make an exception for Paypal. It will make your life easier.

Confused at what you're asking. If your paypal is setup, you're good to go om ebay. All you'll ever need to provide is your email, but in ebay it's linked

Also there is less risk in providing your bank account number to random people than you think.

Remember you will get charged a fee for selling on ebay.

Since routing numbers are easily found online... I'll agree to disagree. Yes theoretically bank accounts are insured against fraud, but that's not a safe practice to follow.

That said, Paypal is a bank in its own right. Linking Paypal to your bank account is one of the safest online transactions you could possibly make. Both Paypal and your personal bank insure transactions against fraud.

I would rather give my PayPal account on line than my debit/credit card numbers.

Hey, this word of advice is what the bank teller told me. It's been a while since I transferred funds, but to transfer money into an account all you need is routing number and bank account number. But to transfer money out, it requires a few more steps of authentication I think. So basically someone can frame you by putting money into your account and say you're taking bribes, but to steal your money, would be a different issue. Anyone a bank teller here?

Yup Paypal is it's own bank, don't they provide dividends or itnerest for leaving your money in the account? I know they used to.

Anytime someone writes a check to another party...they now have your account/routing numbers

Too many fees and shipping hassles. I would rather craigslist them and meet at a local wall-e parking lot where you are on film.

I always use Paypal when I sell stuff on ebay. It's all connected (Paypal, ebay,my phone) and makes it super easy. Yes you pay changes on ebay and Paypal but it's still easier than having to wait for a check.

I agree with everyone on PayPal , perfectly safe . I use it for a lot more than just EBay.

When selling items on Ebay, be sure to list your items as accurately as you can . Ebay has became all about the buyer so if you accidentally upset a buyer it won't go well for you .

There are some buyers that will use that against you . Some will try to get a partial refund before leaving feedback just because your new and they know that bad feedback will ruin your ability to sell on Ebay . If that happens , report them right away so that Ebay will have a record of it .

    Good luck !

Also it's ridiculously easy to get your money back if someone were to gain access to your bank account. It's usually just a phone call to tell them the charge is fraudulent.

Have you thought about going to your bank and opening another account? Then you could only keep a minimal amount of money in that account and only use it for Paypal Transfers.
It may be something to look into if you are worrried about fraud?

Cute...I didn't say I use checks. Just, that the same people who are paranoid about others knowing their account number likely would think nothing of giving someone a personal check.

Pay pal is fine on ebay but don't give an individual access to your pay pal account on Craigslist, unless you want to lose a bunch of money.

That's one of the biggest scams on there.

considering I only get about 1/3 of Craigslist callers who say they are "on their way" to actually show up; I'd rather go the paypal/shipping route. Nothing like wasting an entire Saturday afternoon waiting on CL no-shows.

That being said I do use CL from time to time, but especially for small stuff the shipping is negligible and worth the ease of mind.

There is no protection using PayPal on CL like with ebay.
