I just booked a 4 person bear hunt and fishing trip to Ontario for September. I have always wanted to take a black bear with my bow and will now have a chance. 3 of my hunting buddies will be going along. I feel like a twelve year old kid right now. I had no idea that I could still get this excited about anything. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Where in Ontario are you going? The fishing could be fantastic as well as the bear hunt. As already mentioned bring Thermacell. I'd also bring a head net.
Have fun Fletch! My dad just returned from Quebec with a big one. His first time on a bear hunt. He had 7 days, but his tag was filled on day 2.... take some fishing gear!
Thanks guys. I will be hunting over bait on islands in Lake of the Woods. We will be fishing with guides until 2pm each day and then dropped off on islands to hunt until dark. I went to the same place fishing last summer and it was amazing. We caught big walleyes, smallmouth, pike and a musky. We saw bears and wolves while we were fishing. Thanks for the tips on the Thermacell. Any other words of wisdom are appreciated.
Mosquitos are the biggest obstacle on bear hunts. That and knowing which bears not to shoot (if holding out for a boar for example).
I am soooooo jealous. Get a biggin and take lots of pics or Tony will give you the o'l "pics or it didn't happen" routine.
Not every year are the mosquito's bad. Honestly I've never owned a thermacell. I just bring bug spray with in the stand and use it if needed. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
