Got a call from the wife this morning that we are getting a dog. It a stray that was going to be taken to the pound and she just couldn't let that happen.

She sent these pictures to me, and I wondered if any one had any idea what kind or mix it was..

She says its smart as a whip..

Before bringing the dog in I would have a vet check him/her out - They should be able to tell you.

I've heard of these. Don't they kill bears with like one bite or something like that?

Yup, nice looking dog though. I would definitely have a vet check it out and be sure to check for Lymes disease.
Is the dog intact or neutered?

Looks like a Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Dog. Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.jpg , but in the absence of any documentation it is probably a Heinz (as in Theresa). Maybe to big for that...

Nothing wrong with a Heinz dog. They're not bred for any particular hunting traits, but they're likely to be healthy, smart, and terrific, loyal companions.

Yep, take it to a vet to have it checked and see what breed they think. Also they can check to make sure it isn't micro chipped as well.

"Rush in" to the back door and "bare" down on a hot biscuit.
