Have any of you done projects with line logs? Tables, chairs, railings, that kind of stuff? I'm wondering if I have to worry about the cracks in the logs?

What kind of project and cracks are we dealing with here? I've made benches from scratch. I've made bird feeders, railings, stairs, ladder golf games, and some other random stuff.

Here's the what I made the log benches out of :tu:

That looks like a heck of a bench Fitz! Think even with my lack of skills I can make a bench that looks like that! Well done!

You must have missed the part where I said "This is what I made the benches out of".

I mean more from a structural stand point, I love the look but will I have to worry about them falling apart over time?

Nothing compared to some of the cool stuff here, but I built a covered 4 wheeler storage area at our camp in the Adirondacks several years ago using hemlock and one of my smaller chainsaws. Someday I'd really like to build a storage barn out of logs like this. It's probably 7-8 years old now and still solid as can be. I think if we would have built using the notched corners on all sides and cedar it would probably last forever. The corner posts in the back are roughly 3' down sitting on top of large rocks we threw in the hole. Would get them as plumb as we could then would cut the notch accordingly to make sure the cross pieces were level(ish).

Fitz - I love those benches. Someday when we finally buy a "forever" house I want to build those and a killer fire pit.

    No, I wouldn't worry at all for a table with 3 1/2" D legs.

Think I'm gonna get into building some of this stuff if we move... Wife and I have been talking and if we move back down south "KY or TN" I'm gonna open a furniture store selling rustic and country style pieces.
