First morel find for 2014... over the next few weeks, they'll be bigger and you won't have to be on your hands and knees looking for them...

Is this really just another screw with the northerners thread...

Gah..I love those things! We were pretty warm here today but pretty sure we've been way too cold yet on average...guess maybe I better pay attention!

Here in Indiana still got a few weeks yet - much rain coming this week but not warm enough temps behind it. Should be a good year though.

Not a prank, Brent... They are starting to come up here. We need rain though or it'll be a short season this year. Another week or so and they'll be starting up your way.

I'm thinking it will be later like it was last year. They should be really popping Easter weekend.

Haha, no I believed ya I'm just shocked to see them starting what seems to be so early but I guess it's not that early and you are way further south than us. I'm just excited to see the first ones of the year.

I'd almost rather hunt them than to eat them, shroom season is like my turkey season since I don't generally turkey hunt.

I agree! Like I said, a few weeks away! That puts me what, 5 days prior to Easter - so yeah, I will be in the woods that entire week.

I usually get a 3 or 4 week window that I can go and find Mushrooms. I don't always find them but if I consistantly go during this time I'm bound to get lucky and find some.

if yuall want to keep up with their progress here in OK, I'll throw in my shameless plug for my Oklahoma Morel Report page on FB.

compared to the last couple of years, we're about 2 weeks behind schedule. normally by this time of year we are starting to find some big yellows, but not yet this year. nothing at all in northern Oklahoma yet

Nothing worth picking, but we at least know they're starting here in southern Indiana...

We found a dozen of similar size and all on moss.

Despite the dry conditions here in OK they are still coming on strong. Kansas and MO should be poppin this week. They had good rain last weekend.

    Dayum bro! Nice finds all!

I've yet to find any shrooms, I went out looking pretty hard last weekend but nothing. There weren't even any toadstools up yet. We missed out on the rain last week here in my area and are pretty dry on the surface for mushrooms to pop up at the moment but supposed to get rain tonight and tomorrow. Problem is we're also supposed to turn cold again.

Some went north and some formed in a line just to the east of us here. We don't really need any except for growing some mushrooms. I've been trying to push brush with a dozer and our subsoil is still extremely wet. I actually had water bubbling out of a hole yesterday when I pushed over a big elm....weirdest soil conditions I've ever seen this year, guess because our soil was frozen so deep over winter?

Went out yesterday here in central IL. Wasn't expecting to find anything but wouldn't have been surprised if I had.

Didn't find anything but it was encouraging. Mayapples are about 2-3" tall as well as trillium. A lot of reports of asparagus coming up as well. Tulips have bulbs but not in bloom and no dandelions yet.

Thinking by Easter there will be a few finds, supposed to snow a bit today and tonight but won't hurt anything. I'm a bit concerned about the cold snap to end April and begin May if anything.

Works starting to kick up too so it's gotta be getting close, never fails. Mushroom and deer seasons overtime always shows up

Yeah we are cold and wet here too now, like 34F here right now and I'm freezing to death after several days in the 70's. I don't think we'll see much shroom action here until around april 24th or so. I didn't find the first ones last year until the 25th.

Here is a video showing some of the small greys we found yesterday (there's also a bass thrown in there)...

Found my first of the season yesterday. Still going to be a week or two yet, won't be going back out until next weekend if I can hold out lol.

Found this one and covered it up and left. I always find them here about a week earlier than my other spots. South facing open hill side.

Better idea of the size

Look atte temps for the next week! Them overnight lows are the key, going to be a great year if we can keep precip coming at regular intervals
