My wife and I started reading on this "Common Core" stuff. We're either going to home school or be in the principals office a LOT. It seems like they are overly complicating simple math that most of us can do in our head.

Im glad our little hick town still embraces guns... a couple months ago the local Sherriff came to the school and did gun safety training. My daughter hopped right into it and had all the answers, she was very proud of herself as was I. Those who completed the course got a certificate, a letter was sent home in the weeks prior in case you didn't want your child involved lol

That's pretty cool. Over here that would NEVER happen, we throw kids out of school for pointing a finger like a gun :bash:

No, this is not an "Illinois Curriculum". If you bothered to actually read the article it says it's a workbook created by two teachers intended for use at that school only. It wasn't something implemented by the State, as the author of the original article and this post would have you believe.

I'm not saying I disagree with people being upset over the blatant misinformation provided in the workbook, it's just that I hate when people take things out of context and blow them out of proportion in order to make headlines.

You should have heard some of the ideology that was thrust upon me in college by my professors. I don't think the papers I wrote did me any favors in obtaining better grades. For example, I wrote a paper giving the death penalty two thumbs up! hahaha

I got an F on a sociology paper on what is wrong with America and how do we cure it. I wrote how we had to take responsibility for our actions and quit being an instant gratification and disposable society. I said the professor's theory of we are a product of our society and therefore not liable for our actions was a crock. Since it was the final, I took it to the Department Head on appeal. I ended up with an A on it.

My bad, should have said "Look what they are teaching in an Illinois school system as part of the curriculum."

Being reported that they have agreed to pull this from the classrooms. Should have never been a debate about it
