So they're getting rid of The Professionals and expanding into a new 1 hour show called Uncharted. Looks pretty awesome.
I don't care for Jim Shockey so I don't watch any of his shows so I had to google who eva shockey was.....
Branlin Shockey puts together the best production for any hunting show period. I respect HB for what they can do, but they operate within a controlled environment for the most part by sticking to Midwest tree stands... Shockeys crew rivals their quality and do so ranging from 15k feet in Mongolia to the deep jungles of Cameroon. I love following Jim's hunts because they are such far fetched adventures that I will never partake in. His stories seem more like the safari tales of a century ago, not in today's world.
HB pioneered a lot of the artistic styles you see emulated in shows today. You didn't have people using rack focus, sliders, jibs, timelapse, hyperlapse, color corrected post, etc., until them. Sure, shows were starting to focus a little more on post production, but when HB started, people were really amazed at the difference. I actually remember people complaining on HNI and AT about their stuff being too artistic and not enough hunting. Now look at many of the shows today. They're stepping it up. It's a great thing for the industry. Believe me, I remember Shockey's early works on TV (I was an Outdoor Channel nut in my teens). I always liked the guy, but production quality was on par with all of the other shows (and it was sub par). As far as content is concerned, yeah what the Shockeys accomplish in the places they do is impressive, and I agree with you there. Sent from Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
Digging this thread up from the archives. I finally got around to watching all my DVR episodes. I will say that I have became extremely bored with most hunting shows out there. I watch a few like Solo Hunters, Eastmans, and HB still, but Uncharted blew them out of the water IMO. Awesome adventures, awesome production.
I think I've had a change of heart on Jim Shockey. Maybe I didn't give him a chance or maybe he just seemed too much of a hardcore "business" hunter (specifically in The Professionals) but it just seemed like he was hunting to make the show and get the perfect camera shot and not actually enjoy the hunt. He seemed like he was always angry. After watching Uncharted my opinion on Shockey really changed, or maybe he in fact changed himself. Maybe that was the purpose of The Professionals and he decided that it didn't work out which is why he moved on and did Uncharted. Either way, I enjoyed Uncharted.
I love this show man, the concept is awesome. It has a much realer feel to it than most hunting shows on TV today.
