I don't like it at all because it takes fake extra point field goals out of the game completely. Say there is only a minute left and a team is about to tie the game with an extra point but they see the defense is lined up or has certain personnel on the field and decide to change to a 2 point conversion. Lining up this far back means you can't do it anymore.
Just remove the extra point and make them go for 2 every time would make the game much more interesting
This. Or say make it back to the 40 yard line and make it hard at least. 25 yard line is still going to be 90% I bet.
I wish they would just stop changing the friggin' rules!!!! Just play the damn game. The extra point is supposed to be a bonus for scoring a TD, it shouldn't really be that hard to get it.
it slows down the game for a meaningless point TD --> commercial --> extra point --> commercial --> KO --> commercial --> etc
The extra point does not slow down the game. TV slows down the game. They could easily run out and kick the extra point after the TD, then commercial, then kickoff and play without the extra commercials. Those are financial decisions made by the league. Really have nothing to do with the rules of the game.
Kickers have gotten better. Fake turf where the footing is better and less chance of a mistake. More teams play in domes where weather and wind are not a factor to make mistakes. It is 99.9% make now. The game has changed.
I've been watching football for as long as I can remember. I can honestly only think of 3 or 4 times I have seen a kicker miss an extra point in the NFL. We talking over 20 years of watching and that's about all I can remember. Things haven't changed that much.
pretty sure he means from when the game started the extra point has been irrelevant since modern football I don't understand why people are against improving the game
Extra points are so automatic that it is a pointless part of the game IMO. Give them the choice of either kicking from 25 for 1 point or go for 2 points from the current spot they use.
No element of surprise then? No need to kick off any more either then. I guess we can just let the team choose if they want to give it to the other team at the 20 or go for an on-sides kick too.
Would be another really bad decision if so. I'm for positive changes or tweeks to the game, but fundamentally changing the game is just a bad idea.
The game has already fundamentally changed and it is just an obsolete rule the way it stands. The kickoffs are going away because they will continue to try and prevent injuries to save the game entirely. They have little choice on the latter.
Last year kickers made something like 1652 of 1657 PAT attempts. What's the point of that. I think a 42 yard attempt makes it a little more entertaining...The "extra" point isn't automatic anymore. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
