I graduated high school in 1995, so we had some unbelievable music. My favorites from late 80's to mid 90's would be: Pearl Jam Nirvana Stone Temple Pilots GNR Motley Crue I don't listen to much music later than 2000 other than Jack Johnson and some of Pearl Jam's later works. For overall body of work, I would have to vote Pearl Jam as the best band of my generation.

I have saw Grohl and Chris Cornell in concert. While Cornell's voice was very powerful and impressive in person, the Foo Fighters put on an awesome show. Advantage Grohl.
