When you reach a certain status of celebrity, sometimes you don't realize that the level of popularity can be a fleeting thing and no longer let your brain control your mouth. Personally, I think he has a right to say what he wants, but I also know it can affect your status and your income that is dependent upon that status.

    Take it away Phil!

He's going to piss off a lot of greedy people, drunkards and slanderers now.

Hollywoods gang rioters can always bring a person down by asking them how they feel about gays. Lie and tell them it's fine or tell the truth and they burn you at the stake.

I don't understand why people would be shocked by his comments.

Lumping gays in the same sentence with drunks and terrorists was really, really dumb.

Do most gay people really care what a redneck hick says about them? People are way too sensitive IMO.

I know a couple of gay guys that love the show, so yeah, when he lumps them in the same sentence with terrorists and bestiality, they have the right to be offended.

Why would it shock them that a deeply religous man is opposed to homosexuality?

He's entitled to his position, but I have to go with Mark and Hooker on this one. Unless he really truly doesn't care about the possible business repercussions. I know he doesn't hold back on what he believes (nor should he), but choosing your words wisely IF it can affect the livelihood of not only your family, but the families involved in the business might be the best course of action.

More importantly, why is GQ interviewing Phil Robertson? He's not exactly on the cutting edge of fashion and style.

The same reason all of the non-outdoors and/or hunting markets are targeting them (look at how many mainstream TV appearances they've made, public speeches they've given, etc.). Heck, even Barbara Walter's is intrigued:D

Didn't he used to be one of those 'drunkards', along with a few other undesirable character traits?

Does Phil look like a guy who gives a crap about the financial repercussions of what he says? He's a millionaire that lives in a trailer house for crying out loud.

Nope, but there are more than just him that rely on the business for their livelihood that AREN'T millionaires. (It's not just the 5 guys lounging around making duck calls like you see on the show, lol).

This may just blow over. It may not.

It's the same reason I don't voice my political beliefs on my students.

    There's a time and place.

Thats the part I don't get. Unless you live under a rock, you should at least have an idea about his feelings on such things. He's conservative and religous, why would people be shocked by what he said?

Phil sees their celebrity status as a way to preach the gospel, he feels that's his calling and that's what he does. He backs up his believes by quoting the bible.

Agreed. The guy is reportedly worth around $15-$25 million and I don't honestly think the comments pose much of a threat to their business interests.

    Yep. This.

Everyone knows what his stance would be on such an issue. Now he's on record (again, I don't think he cares).

This is what is wrong with our society today. If speak out about something that you believe in, but is not 'politically correct', you become labeled as some sort of monster. All these special interest groups can force feed us their beliefs and if you don't agree with them, well, you sort do have to sit back and take it.

Phil has his beliefs and he's not afraid to let the masses know it. I see no problem with it.
