Do you ever wish you had a remote for zoom and such? I plan on going with this setup for the most part. Simple, and not very many parts to worry about carrying in. What size SD card do you use, and how long does it allow you to take video for? Is it hard to figure out the ins and outs of the camera?

I remote would be nice, but I knew I wasn't going to be getting one with a DSLR. I have two SD cards, a 32 and a 64, but I think the 64 is going on me. I haven't been out for full day sists yet, but I haven't filled the 32 GB card in an outing. I usually film 15-20 GB of footage at most. I have a battery pack for the setup as well, but I've left it off the last few times and just been swapping the batteries as needed. I have 3 batteries and have only used about 1.5 for an evening sit (that's will the camera in live view the whole time as to avoid the shutter noise of turning it on). I felt much more comfortable with the camera after just a few outings, but I had previous DSLR experience (10-15 years ago). DSLR's aren't the be all end all, especially for the self filmer, but if you know what you're doing they can be a lot of fun and produce some nice looking video.
I run a Nikon D5300 15-55 with 2x zoom lens 55-300 lens Sony WCS999 wireless mics 123v vanguard head Muddy Outfitter arm. I will post a picture of it all set up tonight when I am in the field. When filming with a DSLR you can get 10 mins of film before the camera needs to cool. The sensor get to hot on them so its not something that will record 30 mins of straight video. I run a 16gb card in mine and I have yet to fill it in one sit. But I also compress all of my video at the end of each hunt. I would highly recommend getting 2 batteries just to make sure you will have enough life. In live view it really likes to eat up the battery.
