Can't really speak to the GoPro because I have never used one. I do have a few EpicCams and have been real happy with them. For second angles that your looking for they are great and with the instant on remote they work real well even from a distance! I actually run a few and one click of the remote will turn on all the cameras at one time which is a real nice feature! All the guys from BHoD also run these cameras and census all seems to be about the same from everyone!

Neither one of the cameras are ideal for a primary camera, but they are great for second angles. With that said side by side you get the same 1080 footage with either camera. Where I like the Epic over the GoPro is that is is smaller, lighter, and more sleek than the GoPro making it easier to pack in and out as well as use on either you bow, hat, or mount to a tree (Epic even has a tree mount). We all use them on the Pro Staff and have found some very creative angles. They are a lot of fun to use

The one benefit I could see using a GoPro is the amount of Mounts made for it. Since it has been around longer there are more attachments and accessories for it.

Never used a Epic Cam but the GoPro can be used as a game cam viewer as well, if you get the lcd screen for it.

Would either camera be a good starter camera for someone that wants to try filming but doesn't want to drop a couple thousand on gear?

I wouldn't use either as a primary camera.

I know GoPro has no zoom, not sure about the epic cam.

Neither would make a good camera. Being POV (point of view) you have no screen to actually see what your filming and with no zoom you are really limited and have no clue what you filmed till after.

If you just want to get started cheap pick up a handycam style and a cheap camera arm and have fun!

^what Ferg said^ Get a handycam or other smaller HD cam for filming your hunts.

I would start with a handycam. Cambell Cams has a cheap Canon right now for like $250.

As for the Epic vs GoPro......what is the battery life on these Epics? I heard they do not last long at all....like 45 mins.

GoPro has a LCD screen that comes with the new models, still no zoom but, you can see where your aiming at least!

So your gonna move the camera around with one hand and hold your phone with the other? Gonna use your 3rd hand to hold your bow?

Just stating a pro vs the epic cam. I do not plan on using the view finder while I am hunting.

the app for the go pro that enables you to use the phone as a view finder is very helpful for one purpose in the tree. you mount the camera where you want connect through the app and can make sure its aiming and capturing the image you want not tilted to one side, or cutting half of your head off in the video etc... for me I use the app to set my go pro exactly where I want It then let it be the rest of the time. I have never used an epic cam but I do have the go pro and battery life when using high quality video capture isn't the greatest but you can select what quality of video you want and how many frames per second you want it to capture and I use it on the 720 setting which helps the battery life quite a bit roughly 3 hours vs an hour at the highest speed and quality.

But if you used his product, to film killing multiple animals with, I think you would come out ahead :)
