Anyone pick this up yet? The one thing I do not like about my muddy arm is the loud clicking of the ratchet strap.

Anyone use this new silent strap?

Any other straps out there that are quiet and may work?

I use the muddy outfitter arm/base with a manfrotto 701 head...so needs to be strong.

I have it. While I haven't used it in the woods yet, I've messed around with it and it's pretty nice.

You can operate any ratchet strap silently, but it's tedious. When pulling the ratchet handle to tighten, you pull open the retaining clip. The slowly release the clip and back the handle until it catches the load.

It seem pretty strong. It's been holding my pro arm and 502HD head without issue.

I just ordered the pro arm so I will let you know in a few day what I think of it. It looks like it will work pretty well though

Yea Fitz I learned how to operate it silently...but Im over it. PITA

Im wondering about the boat transom straps? Is that what the silent strap is like? Would you mind taking a few pics for me?

I can take some pics later this afternoon. I'm busy cleaning cabins right now. It's like a combination of a transom strap and a LW strap. You take the slack out with a LW style buckle, then wrench it down with the transom style handle.

I was looking at it the other day online and would love to see some real world photos of the strap system. I love my Muddy Hunter arm, but yea the ratchet noise stinks ... though I've killed and videoed a lot of deer after that ratchet has lashed the arm to the tree. But also, it is heavy. If the new arm with silent strap is as long or longer than the Hunter, I'd love to shave weight off of my setup.

The length of the Pro arm is at 35" fully extended compared to the Hunter arm which is at 47".

Todd bought one of these straps and while it is nice I think the word "ratchet" is a bit misleading. It's not a ratchet strap in the traditional sense that we all think of them. Instead it's a hybrid of a cam strap (think Lone Wolf tree strap) and a fold-over buckle. So basically you use the cam strap to tighten the strap down and then the fold-over buckle takes up whatever slack is left and tightens the base of your tree arm down.

In theory I think it looks good but I'm not so sure about practical use and how well it's going to work. On a perfectly straight tree with no loose bark I'm sure it will be fine. Although on some of the more crooked trees I've been in where not all 4 of the teeth bite into the bark or a shagbark hickory where there's a lot of give in the bark I'm not sure you'll be able to get it tight enough for my liking. Only time will tell I guess.

I've been thinking of picking one up but had some of the same concerns and thoughts Justin listed.

Ultimately think I'm just gonna stick with the ratchet strap. I'm no ninja and rarely get into stand without making some kind of noise so because of this I'm usually in the stand early enough that it won't matter. All the noise made climbing in and getting settled in I doubt the extra 10 secs it's gonna take to make a few clicks tightening a strap are gonna make much of a difference.

Still be curious to know how it works out though.

    Ok, here's some photos.

The strap attaches just like a LW strap

Then you take out the slack and start to tighten it by pulling the strap through the cam lock

Then you cinch it down and lock it to the tree by cranking the lever closed.

So far I haven't had any issues getting it tight, but it's only been on a birch and a maple. With loose bark I could see having to cinch it down, then open the lever and re cinching it if there's an issue.

I'll know more in Oct :tu:

Based on that alone I will stick with my Hunter model.

    Thanks Fitz!

All good points.... I just know the unnatural sound of metal ratcheting is what I do not like.

100000% pick it up. I just got a new setup including the new arm with the strap and its great. I have used it in the woods about 6 times now. So easy to set up, very quite. Its really a no brainer. You the strap the clip has teeth and only works one way. I have actually tighten the strap so much the ratchet portion wouldn't click so the concern about it not being tight enough wouldn't occur. I wish I could use this everywhere. They should make something like this for POV cam mounts and bow hangers. Screwing in and ratcheting frustrates me idk about you guys.
