I'm just wondering if a GoPro would be a good enough camera to start filming hunts of all kinds and bow fishing. I'm thinking:
    Deer - bow and gun
    Ducks
    Geese
    Pheasants
    Bowfishing
    Elk some day

Would a GoPro get the job done or would it be a waste of money?

The only place it would lack would be no zoom. It's got a wide angle lens so it would be great for wing shooting and fishing but it may not have quite the zoom for deer and elk. I just got one not too long ago and have been very impressed with it!

In my opinion...in a way. I have a Gen. 3, Hero 3 Silver and it's great for a shotgun or bow mount to capture your shots. But as far as trying to film an actual hunt, no, I don't think so. Although its small, light weight, waterproof, good battery life and HD, it still lacks zoom and pertains a sub-par microphone. Although the microphone isn't necessarily that important, I do think that zoom is. I bought a GoPro a few years ago for the same reasons you're thinking about getting one and it works and will suffice for the most part. However, playing around with my new Canon, my GoPro will now instead be pointing back at me, not the animal. If you asked me if I would recommend it for someone to start "filming" with, I'd say no, but it is a good accessory/alternative.

I used mine last year just cause I didn't have anything else. It was definitely better than nothing, and did get my first kill recorded, but if you can get better go for it. The zoom is a huge one. My shot was at like 17 yards and looks like it's about 50 or more and can't get closer without trying the software editing which loses quality. The microphone I didn't think I'd care but woulda been way better having real sounds and it's moan instead of some muffled bow handling and the sound of the shot.
I'd say overall it was great being able to record over just pics, and for my own memories worked, but there's definitely more out there and pretty reasonably priced especially considering the upgrade in quality and potential.

The owner of Go Pro is a Peta member I would look else where.

Even at 30 yds, things look tiny on the GoPro. And I love my 2 GoPros. If you're wanting to get impacts, you're gonna need something with a zoom.

The GoPro would be better suited for filler type of video to make a video more interesting....Such as talking to the camera while driving to the hunt location, maybe a close up of your boots walking in mud or crossing a stream, talking to the camera on stand, drawing the bow.

I plan to get some really cool footage with mine this season. Ive already been brainstorming ideas for what I can do with it! The time lapse is definitely gonna be a cool feature

I agree. Just bought the Hero3 black and I'll just use it to shoot back at me and same wide angle stills.

Gopros were made to be in the action! I would personally get a different camera for filming my hunts. Now that doesn't mean you cant throw a gopro on a tripod in your shooting lane, or a gopro on the bow.

IMO GoPro's should be used to view different perspectives
