I am wondering what kind of zoom you guys have on your video cameras or how much do you think is needed? It obviously depends somewhat on where you're hunting, but just in general. Thank you
20x optical is ideal. Never use the digital zoom. If you're hunting in a thick woods 10x optical would probably be enough Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
20x is probably ideal, although when you get to the upper end of a 20x zoom and handle the camera, its always quite shaky in my opinion. 10x zoom really isn't bad either if you are bowhunting. All shots within bow range will be plenty zoomed in. Deer in the distance however you'll wish you had 20x. But for when the moment counts, 10x is plenty
Which is exactly why for me I'm saving some costs and grabbing the G20 over the G30 this off season. I only have one stand on a field...
This is a big reason why I asked this question because of the difference between the G20 and G30. Being in upper Michigan the only field i hunt would be a food plot that isn't much more than 100 yards. I just don't want to go the "cheap" way if a 20x zoom is pretty critical.
I went with the g20 and will be using it for the first time this weekend. I do hunt several fields but I didn't want to pay the extra cost. If I really get into this filming thing I can always upgrade if I see the need. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think you will NEVER regret getting the G30, you may regret the G20...I say if money doesn't bug ya for the difference always get the uptick.
All my hunts for BHOD have been with a 10x zoom. It's worked for me for bowhunting, and I've only had a few times when a bigger zoom would have been great. Here's the deal though... The camera I have didn't offer a 20x at the time, but now it does. If it did at the time I was looking to purchase, I maybe would've went with the 20x if the price difference wasn't more than what I could afford. So a 10x will work, but that 20x would most likely give you that extra edge when you need it.
