Im looking at buying one of these two cameras. I can get the g20 refurbished for around 520$. I can get the g30 for 720. I want to go with the cheaper camera, but I am thinking about biting the bullet for the extra zoom. How big of a deal is the extra zoom?
I would base it on how your hunts normally play out. The longest shot I have anywhere I hunt is 40 yards so the g20 would be more than enough. If you have a lot of wide open areas/fiends you hunt, go with the g30.
I'd go with the g30. The extra zoom is worth it and also it shoots 1080/60p compared to the g20's 1080/30p Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Really depends on how much you are going to put into it. Sam makes a great point in distance. The g20 has internal memory. The G30 has more options for video output in terms if MP4 and very slight advantage in low light. The G30 is slightly heavier and larger. Not a big difference but noticeable. Either way if you get either you should be ok. The G30 is pretty much the XA20 without the XLR inputs and handle. It also has wifi transfer and app for the remote if that matters.
Can you share where you found the G30 refurbished for $720? If you don't want to share publicly, can you PM? Thanks!
G30. I'd lean more towards the 1080 60p being the bigger of the benefits to be honest. But overall the camera just has more upside to it, including the extra zoom. The G20 is a solid camera, but it is two generations old as of now and it is not getting any younger relative to newer technology.
Also with the g30 your gonna need sd cards. I would like the 20x optical zoom though if only for summertime recording of bucks 1000yds out in the soybeans. My g20 is a great cam other than the few occ. where that little extra distance to bring them in would be great. In a hunting situation the g20 is fine. maybe even too much zoom. Iv'e lost animals in the zoom in bowhunting situations. Check out Big black bear. That was filmed with a g20.
One advantage to having the extra zoom of the G30 is, that when deer are out of bowhunting range, you can still zoom in to get some great footage. It's nice being able to zoom in on other wildlife too. Sent from my SM-S902L using Tapatalk
