Ran across this article on Facebook from Exodus Trail Cameras.

Found it to be really interesting. To be honest, I never knew that it was used as a marketing ploy- props to them for being honest.

What does everyone else think? Do Trail Camera Megapixles Matter?

It does not unless you are going to be blowing pics up to wall size. The cameras are really not as high in megapixels as they advertise. Their claims are accomplished by a process called interpolation. It's basically just an electronic enhancement. Most computers cannot handle more than 3mp of true megapixels. They are right.....it's just a marketing ploy.

    Blessings.......Pastorjim

Depends on what quality pics you want. I have 6,8,12mp Coverts. They all take great pics to me.

I put all my cameras on the lowest pixels so they upload faster and the SD card will hold more photos.

With hogs I can have 5,000 photos on one card.

    Like Pastor Jim said.

The sensor size is very small, much smaller than a full frame digital SLR and the fact that trailcam mfgs. are using interpolation. I think this is actually false advertising and they should be made to disclose that it is not true pixel count.

One more thing, there is not standard pixel size from one manufacturer to another.

Once you breech, 5, not really, unless, as Pastor Jim said, you plan to make posters... keep in mind, the best cameras on the market (photo cameras, not trail cameras), only did 5 a few years ago....
