This year I will be hunting public land for the first time since I was a kid growing up in the Pisgah National Forest. I thought it would be interesting to see some of the bucks everyone has on camera from public land in different states. I'll start...

    Nice @alecollins10

I have two buddies that hunted southern Wisconsin public land last year. They both saw 140-150 class deer during their 4 day hunt.

I intend to do a fair amount of public land hunting, but I don't have a trail camera out. I had a guy from the Missouri Department of Conservation tell me that it was not legal to run trail cams on conservation land. There's a spot that I scouted early this spring that I'd like to put a camera up and see, just hate risking having it stolen or getting in trouble. I couldn't find any statute in the code that specifically said it was not legal.

Well there it is...the stupidest thing I've heard today. Why would they care if someone puts a camera on public land?

Yeah I don't know. It came from their Facebook admin as an answer to a direct question about trail cameras. Basically I think he said that since there wasn't a rule for allowing than that they were not allowed. Personally, I believe that if there isn't a specific rule prohibiting them, them they would be allowed.

Here's one from last season. Not bad for a night pic. I hunt Public land almost exclusively. If you get away from the paths/roads you can find some decent deer hunting on Public land.

I have not pulled any cards yet but hoping for something good soon.

Some States have regs prohibiting cameras but at least it is stated as a prohibition. Here in WI. they have regs for the State land. On National Forest they are allowed but some LEOs say they consider them abandoned property which means they could be confiscated and a citation issued just like a treestand outside of season.
