Just started scouting some new public ground and setup 2 cams a week ago. Found this well used trail that comes up from a big private meadow below. Several deer and this one buck moving thru at all times of the day! I got busted by a doe yesterday checking the cams. Thinking about hanging a stand and staying out til hunting season.
He might be a buck I would like to hunt, so I don't want to over scout the area. What do you guys do? 5-26-16 Hill Plc N.jpg

Wouldn't hurt to find a spot to hunt from, but theres a good chance that he'll move or change patterns later in the year. Nice buck though. I'd go for it.

Awesome Buck!! I would find a good tree close to there and hunt it. Be careful about leaving stands on public land and hang your cameras high.

Hes got a great start but im afraid he will change pattern before season opens

Try to keep track of him until it gets closer to season than make a plan.

Nice deer. Around here we watch deer all spring and summer and then spend all fall trying to see them at all! I'd be trying to see where he's bedding as that "might" be a fall site to hang around.

Yes there pattern will surely change, I will setup a third cam in the area and check them in mid-june.

He's got a great start for sure but he probably will have changed his routine by the time the season starts. Good luck catching up to him.

    Blessings.........Pastorjim

That's a lot of bone for May! Could be a dandy. I won't set any stands until mid to late July. You've got plenty of time. He could, and probably will, change his pattern after crops come up.

No crops up here in the Black Hills, just a hey field with a creek running thru it. I have yet to kill a mature buck in the early season, hopefully I can find where he beds and travels to and from the private meadow on a regular basis.
