His face/nose screams young deer to me, his neck/chest line says 2 1/2 to me....I'm no older than 2 1/2 (based on those two things) but man the bone makes you think older just hard to imagine but not impossible for a 2 1/2 to sport that much (bone doesn't give age indication but man).
See Im in the same pickle here. I got his shed from last year and it went 70+. If he was a two year old last year and 3.5 this year I cant imagine what hell become. But tough to pass without certainty
Yeah I think he's at least 4.5 now. His frame with his front end oriented so low compared to his hind quarters makes me think he's deceptively older than he appears from his face and neckline. Kinda reminds me of Ernie's pic the other day. I would not doubt a bit he's over five but I'm comfortable with 4.5.
That first picture sure makes him look like a young deer. Very deceptive if he is over 3.5. I like your trailcam name, though!
3.5. The way the hams are bigger than the shoulders, but at the same time he has a pretty large stomach. Only way to find out is shoot him and have him aged haha Sent from my LG-D500 using Tapatalk
Here is his shed from this past year! Hard to believe that he was a two year old last year with this kind of size.
I'm betting we got an Ernie like buck here....just body and skeletal wise a different genetic display than norm. With your history and such I'd bank on what Covey said and go 4 1/2 minimum age....if not older.
Well, also if you'll recall the article that Alshiemer published where he followed a particular buck for it's entire life, at one point in his old age he began to stop building body weight and at that point he started having some traits common in a young deer again. It may have been his 9th or 10th year. That first pic doesn't look like that's the case here but that second pic definitely shows some signs that deer may not be young, at least to my eye. I think he still looks to crisp to be "old" but older than 3.5 anyway. Then again I may be over thinking it and it's a monster 3 year old, lol. Interesting case.
