Happy to see my duck house worked and seen some ducklings/first ever on camera. Then going through the pics soon realized it wasnt good..... As of today there are three left outta 7. Dont think them three will be around much longer.
Crappy part of running alot of cams is seeing mother nature work in bad ways also.

Then the owl shows up. My guess is the ma' hung with the babies into the night where she normally goes back into the duck house. The owl is a regular and seen a chance for some food. Since the first night the owl has hung out till just about sunrise. (rained both nights/kinda foggy night pics but you get the idea)

And here the owl is with a little one:

And what is left as of today.

I freaking hate owls. MDC says they don't catch quail either...but don't believe it.

I bet the owls hate us more.

Hawks are way worse in my book.

That owl did every fisherman a favor by eating those ducklings, those are not really ducks they are fish eating machines.

Tough ending for the ducklings but that was a great capture you got on the log.

That is nature in action. Poor little duckling, but it is predator and prey. I have seen a hawk take a squirrel from a tree once.. that was kind of cool.

They are flying, swimming, coyotes. Beautiful birds though. Owl can be jerks too, I had one that got into a pheasant pen and would kill a hen eat it's brain and kill another one and eat nothing but the brains.

I always find it ironic that we hate on natural predators so much. Especially when they kill animals we like, or animals that we want to kill ourselves. They're all part of the same ecosystem we are and they need to eat just like we do. Trouble is they don't have a grocery store or fast food joint to drive through and get theirs.

Hunter goes out and shoots a deer and makes jerky out of it - we all praise him/her.

Owl kills a duck and eats it - we all complain about it.

    Odd.

    Nice photos anyways. :tu:

I was about to say the same thing...it's just the life cycle of the ecosystem. Everything has a place.

It's not odd, we're competitors. I find it odd that anyone would find it odd.

Checked again today after work and they are all gone. Owl was there right at sunset.

Was neat seeing that the duck house worked though and there was little ones in the pond.
