Ever since day one I have had severe burn issues with my G42. I tried everything they told me here to correct it. Lower the cam, tilt it down, etc. Nothing worked. I was still getting horrible burn on every night picture. I finally solved the problem by taping over most of the LED's. Now my night pictures are perfect. No more burn. Kinda hard to see in the picture but only a few LED's are open on the top right of the array.
Bought a g42 last summer and the night pictures aren't too bad but may have to try this if it's better. Does it mess with the day pics though because anything that messes those up isn't worth it!
The Ir flash isn't used in daylight so I wouldn't think it would do anything to day pics. The only burnout I ever get is in low lying areas that tend to steam up due to humidity and temp changes. I've had the same problem with the other two brands of cameras in the same spots. At any rate, glad you found a solution!
Have you checked the firmware to make sure it's the latest version? I don't know how old your cams are but it could be the yare running on outdated programming.
Hmm, so odd. Well, I'm glad you found a solution anyway, the pics look pretty good. Mine don't take the "best" night pics either, while I don't have any problems with burnout...I've always felt they were a bit grainy like my Covert black cameras in comparison with my Moultries. Decent trade off for the black flash and high quality day pics though so I'm pleased with them overall.
The day pictures are excellent from my G42. Night pictures are fair to poor. Graininess is to be expected from a low glow camera. (The G42 is not a black flash camera as advertised. You can clearly see the LED's firing at night)
Absolutely. When I find the "perfect" trail camera, I'll buy up enough of them to last the rest of my life and be done with it, lol. They get better almost every year. I think Stealth Cam may have made the biggest single jump in quality over the last couple of years. I would like to try a Browning camera as I hear lots of good things about them. Hopefully Stealth Cam improves their cameras as much again as they did to the G series...that may be approaching something close to perfection if they can achieve that.
