I've never seen anything like it around here? Too small for a house cat, doesn't look like an opossum? I'm at a total loss...:alien:
My best and only guess is a packrat? There is a nest within about thirty feet.

Its small enough to be a chipmunk from the looks of the pic, but man, that thing looks freaky. I hope you get a day pic of it, whatever it is.

Since a nest is so close, I would lean toward the pack rat. A lot of rodents are nocturnal.

Yeah it does look freaky, I think it's stalking that doe.:ninja:
I also thought it looked somewhat like a chipmunk but I've never seen a chipmunk around here and it's out at night, do chipmunks get around at night?
We have lots of packrats/woodrats, our area is covered in old coal dumps and there are wood rat nests everywhere though I've never gotten a pic of one. This think looks really cat-like though to me, it's just so small.

Chipmunks prefer the daylight. I have dozens of them around my house. They compete with the squirrels for acorns.

I don't know guys, Alvin and Theodore did have some pretty good Ninja moves:ninja: I have only seen one chipmunk in the dark, and that was a last light while coming down in my climber. It could be a rat, but its ears seem awfull big.

Hmm, never thought about a flying squirrel. I've never seen one in our part of the country. I see some maps that show us on the edge of their range and I've heard people say they saw them in some localized areas, I've just never seen one personally.

    Very interesting.

Their fur is soft like a chinchilla. I've found a few tail remains before. They come to our bird feeders almost every night.

I'll go with a flying squirrel as well.

I don't think I'm in their range either, but a good friend did get one on trail cam this year. I called BS until he showed me.
