Here are some more buck pics from the cameras I pulled this weekend. I am still kicking myself(HARD) for passing this first buck a few weeks ago because I couldn't tell how old he was This one is WIDE!!!
I wouldn't feel bad for passing the buck not being able to age him. It's better than killing a super young buck and never knowing what his potential was, there's no taking that back....you'll get another chance at him if you want him. Nice bucks all around!
I hear what you are saying. He stepped out in some set aside at 37 yards broadside. I could not tell his age and his rack looked like it had everything you would want but spindly and I didn't want to shoot him if he was young. I figured him at 150" but I think he is a little better than that. I have got him on 6 different cameras already
Haha, yeah it can turn into a gut twisting game for sure. I imagine you have better ones running around anyway, you may end up thankful you passed him and kept your tag. A buck that active will probably make himself available more than once anyway. I passed a decent 8 point yesterday evening thinking my #1 was going to be close behind him as he usually is on camera with the 8...uh uh...didn't happen. Wasn't a 150's deer but maybe 130's, still hard to watch a buck like that walk away from an 8 yard shot. To make myself feel better today I went through all my 2014 pics and my hitlisters. I'm happy now, he is a nice 8 but I'd like to have a 10+ on the ground and wall this year and considering the deer running around this year, it's the time to get picky.
It isn't easy passing a really good buck but if you can do it and there is a chance that buck can get some age he can turn into a MONSTER! Here is a pic of Split Brow when he was 3 1/2, I had him at 23 yards and I will never forget that sit. I passed him knowing he could be a giant. Here he is at 4 1/2 Here he is at 6 1/2
