Here's the horn porn: Preliminary disclaimer; just in case some trolls are about...baiting is legal in the state of Kansas where I hunt and run my cams. The following pictures came from covert mpe5 cameras hung over 50 pounds of corn, 2 bags of monster raxx mineral, and a healthy dosing of monster raxx oil based attractant called whitetail magnet sprayed on the corn. This recipe works well for me! Very well! The corn was gone in a couple days, the deer kept coming back for a full week until the mineral was cleaned up. I run 6 coverts on the farm, divided between the cam locations I set out 300 pounds of corn, 12 bags of monster raxx mineral, and about a half bottle of monster raxx oil based attractant. I let this setup marinade in the woods for 7 days prior to checking. Every last bit of mineral and corn were gone, and I went through 6534 pics in total. Here's some of the goodies thus far. I'll honestly say I don't recognize any of these bucks from last year. I'm not sure where my three and four year olds from last year went. I don't know if any of these new bucks will be shooters, but they posed nicely for the camera. Also, for a budget cam, these mpe5's are ridiculous. I foresee lots more going in the Kansas timber by the rut. And the best of them all...I think even Pat would be proud of this one...I may turn this photo into mine and wife's 2014 Christmas card haha
Awesome Pics, I love the drop tine and the overall quality of your bucks! A lot of those would make my list! Although if I had that many great bucks running around I would maybe have to rethink my grading scale
Great pics! I've always said the MPE5 might just be my favorite camera....simple, cheap, and efective.
We do a controlled burn every year in our native pasture and in certain sections of the timber. The timber areas I hunt I let burn. It's easier and quieter to enter to hunt, and provides better browse IMO. The hedge, cedar, and plum thickets I don't burn those and they are thick, nasty, and dense providing good bedding. I only go in there to shed hunt.
Agreed! I love red 40's for trails and open edges, but so far, over a mineral/corn site. Those mpe5's are tough to beat for the price
That drop tine is very tempting haha, he looks like a two year old tho. I'd love to have a drop tine on the wall, but I'd hate to harvest him immature. Hopefully he likes his new home and is smart enough to avoid cars, poachers, and the neighbors.
I've used the vanilla raxx, whitetail magnet, and apple harvest. All smell incredible and draw deer! In fact, on occasion when I'm out of corn and mineral, I'll just spray the dirt and native plants infront of the cam and the deer will come in and mow it down and paw the dirt. It's potent stuff!
Great bucks bud. That drop tine buck could be something special in a couple years if he makes it. Def looks like a 2yr old with a TON of potential!!! Those pics with the turkeys and deer are flat out beautiful. I set 4 coverts yesterday when I got off duty and didn't cover half of what I wanted too! May have to order a few of these mp5's now.
Awesome pics and bucks!!! Looks like you have a lot to look forward to... Love that light colored older buck.
