So I'm considering picking up traditional Archery this year but I'm about what will be a good draw weight for me and draw length. What are the determining factors and where do I start minus purchasing a bow? I have my eyes on a stick bow hand made 58# 28"

Try it and see. Some people can work with more weight than others. A lot different than a wheeled bow.

What are you drawing now with your compound?

I wouldn't start out buying a handmade bow without knowing what weight will work for you. A lot of people recommend buying a cheaper bow with limbs you can change out. You can then practice form at a lower weight, then buy heavier limbs when you're ready to move up.

When I was shooting over 70# with a compound, I was shooting 55# in a recurve.

I'm shooting 60 to 70# and I could probably shoot 80# tbh but I hunt at 70 pounds

I haven't committed to the bow yet but it is definitely hand made a friend has it. She doesn't know much about it and just thinks is pretty to look at as do I but I know it's definitely a hunting bow. It is baboo backed has to be at most 70" tip to tip relaxed and Is signed with initials and specs was made in 2011 maker unknown but has initials. If I can get my hands on it I think I'm gonna give it a shot.

To heavy to begin with. Your are holding 14 #'s with 80% let-off, with that bow bout 58 #'s If you wish to learn most effectively start maybe in the mid thirties. Only you can determine what you can effectively draw and hold comfortably at anchor. Many beginners,.... many, start with too much weight.
