I know fast flight is out and Dacron is in but is that the best and most recommended for old bows?

What about other materials like BCY X, 452x, etc?

I've had good luck with 452x on my compound but I know that's comparing apples to oranges.

I could really use some advice, please.

Go with the Dacron it's the safest. You won't get that much more from other materials. And it's more quiet.

We use B55 from BCY and it works extremely well.

For all who don't know B55 is a synthetic Dacron.

    B55 Bowstring
100% polyester similar to Dacron but with better durability and very low stretch. Available in solid colors.

Dacron is really not that much slower than FF anyway. I use D-97 and 8125 on my modern stuff but it would not hurt my feelings to use Dacron on everything. I lose tuning and 8-10 fps with dacron. My modern Limbs are designed for lower BH also and Dacron usually will require a dab more, that would mess me up too.
