40 lbs is good but the K Mag is only 52" and a short bow can be twitchy. You're better off with a 60". Not to say it can't be done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In traditional bowhunting we don't really concern ourselves with speed too much. It's about getting the game close. That being said, yes Bear line of bows are pretty quick. They've been around since the 1950's and are still one of the few production companies that has survived the compound take over. Martin and Bob Lee/Wing are some others. Samick has become very popular of late but I've read about risers breaking and limbs not fitting properly. I've been shooting recurve bows for over 50 years. I own about 6 Bear bow out of the 20+- bows I've had/have. In my opinion the Bear Super Kodiak (60") is the finest bow ever made and the Bear Custom Kodiak Take Down is it's equal. But they come at a price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I bought a 60# bear kodiak magnum 2 years ago as my first trad bow and I love it. Yes 52" is very short in the world of traditional archery and it does make a big difference. I shot a few other recurves around the 60" mark at a club I belong to and they shoot a lot smoother and I was able to hold a little tighter groups. That being said though, its so much easier to maneuver the magnum compared to those bows so for hunting I still prefer it compared to a longer bow. Good luck on learning the art of trad archery. I killed a deer the first season I took mine out and now I'm hooked. It's definitely more challenging, but the reward is that much greater!
