Anyone into flint knapping? I was in the flint hills last week and picked up a few pieces of flint to play with. Seems like it would be too hard to chip away with antler but it sparks like flipping crazy.
I've done some but not very good at it… a lot to learn yet.. I like antler but some material doesn't seem to work as well as others. I'm sure my inexperience has much to do with that.

That's pretty neat, we don't find many here at all. I have some family that lives down around the Stockton lake area and there are some areas there where arrowheads can be found. I've been watching some youtube vids on flint knapping, it's pretty amazing watching some of these guys work. Some really sweet looking blades on there.
I see lots of fake arrow heads at a local flee market anymore, couple of guys are real good and selling them for the real deal.
That sucks but doesn't surprise me at all. I wouldn't think they'd need to be dishonest to sell them. If I were to learn to make good ones, I wouldn't want to sell them anyway. What I'd like to do is to make my own bow and arrows and broadheads and kill a deer with them.
If I ever would go to a stick bow I would go all the way also no steel broadheads for me. I need to slow down when I am looking as am sure I am missing the small bird points in this field I am hunting in. If I wanted to get real serious I should just plow my whole yard up and tell the wife I needed to level the yard.
I've been wanting to do the same thing for quite some time now, just haven't had the time. It would be one heck of an accomplishment.
I never have tried it myself but I do like to travel around the state and look for artifacts. I have found some pretty awesome ones since I started looking in the last 2 years.
