Ive shot compound fr years and have had many greathunts and have been lucky to harvest quite a few nice deer with it. In October I will be completing 5 years of service in the USMC and moving back to WI. Ive always mentioned how bad I wanted to learn to hunt with a recurve. Well monday morning I recieved a package from my dad back home and he had got me a "getting out" gift early. I got a Martin Jaguar takedawn and immediately put it together and have went to my nearest archery shop and got it set up and bought arrows and all the essentials. After practicing every day im still awful BUT I am slowly improving. Idk if I will hunt with it this fall but I can not wait to someday hunt with it. Im HOOKED.

Congrats, it does take time. Recurves are not as forgiving as compound bows(form, release, ect). Keep practicing and make sure you have arrows that are correct for your bow. I would for sure bare shaft the bow to make sure. It is challenging but a blast!!!

You're right it's a lot of fun.. Keep practicing, who knows, you may be capable of hunting with it this fall. It's all about knowing your limits and staying in them… Even if it means a super close shot is all you're capable of taking.

I would suggest trying to find someone in your local area who is knowledgable about hunting with Traditional equipment. It can shorten your learning curve significantly.

    I second the pics inquiry!

I'm seriously considering buying a new recurve set up. It's been 19 years since my dads old hand me down warped and I stopped using one. It'll be a brand new experience again by now I'm sure.
