I missed my first squirrel!!! I had him and he was too close to the hole. Now, we're locked in an EPIC battle
Yesterday was a good day. No squirrels, but Marshall came down and we shot on and off for a couple of hours. We were playing "darts" and I was losing, so I started making adjustments. Bad idea. Needless to say, the games stopped and I got it resighted back in. From here on out, I will definitely be taking notes on any adjustments, just in case I need to undo them. We decided that on the days off we have together in August, we'll go scope out the roads and areas for our target areas. Marshall will be out of town for Army training in September, so we resume scouting in October.
November 10 - 20, but I will only have the 13 - 20 to hunt. Marshall has to work on the 11th and the 20th, otherwise he has the whole season off.
The range was pretty good today. Walked the course after warming up. The first half is all bag targets. I wasn't ever in the "x", but I was happy with my shooting, until I over shot the 3D elk at 50 yards an lost an arrow. So after a good weekend, I'm throwing some Quick Fletches on and will hopefully be able to convince my lovely wife to let me pick up a half dozen when we go to Cabela's next weekend. After walking the range yesterday, Marshall and I started talking about bow slings so we aren't always carrying the bow in our hand, especially as we try to get in stalking range. I did a little research on the internet and found an idea. I got about 12' of 3/8" rope and will work on making a single point sling that I can leave on the bow and have a minimum effect on my shooting. I will post pictures as I get it all figured out. Still figuring out the sling. On a more personal note, I have an appointment with the VA in a few weeks. I've been struggling mentally for the last couple of weeks and I'm seeking some help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No arrows from Cabela's, but we did enjoy the aquarium and the animal displays. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Back at the house, relaxing and watching for some squirrels. I was looking face to face with one about 10 minutes ago. He popped up and I didn't have an opportunity for draw back before he dropped. On another note, it's time to sign up for the deer contests. I had a great team this year and they have motivated me to do work and get me a muley this year.
Things have settled down a little bit. Right now I'm just working and prepping for my youth mission trip at the end of the month. I will probably finish my turn around driveway this weekend or Monday, since I'll be home for my appointment. I'll hold off on shooting a lot for a little while. And, come middle of August, we'll start scouting. Just in time for the contest to start. I hope you guys sign up. It was definitely a blast last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sounds like we have a snake in the barn and the dog keeps messing with it. So, tonight or tomorrow, I'll grab my bow and a shovel and try and add a snake to the list of animals taken with my bow. And if not, I have a shovel I can smash the s**t out of it with.
Marshall stopped by this morning to drop his dogs off for a couple of days. He was saying that one of the guys he works with told him that the big bucks are out behind one of the ranches in our area and he knows them well enough to pass through the ranch lands. I asked Marshall to get a little more information from them and I figured I could go and ask them if we can get through. It would be nice to put down a nice 30" buck this year
Got my tags yesterday for deer , feeling good about this season scouted out more places to hunt this year and found excellent tracks , even some sightings of bucks, looking forward to some fun times...
