Hey guys, I was curious what type of flash system do you guys like to use?

This article talks about different flash types and what they prefer.

So the big question- White Flash, Red Flash, or Black Flash?

White flash does take some awesome night photos! I just get nervous with the idea of a white flash going off in my neck of the woods- too many sticky fingers! hahah

I picked red flash just because I have always had a fear of trail cams getting stolen, especially in some of our plots closer to road!

Some of our foodplots are so close to the road that if a white flash went off it would definitely get a lot of attention!

I have always used the red, but I figured the white flash would affect the deer? Is this not the case?

I like black flash. I like the ability to get multiple wolf & fox pictures or video at night. they pick off and are more sensitive to red & white flash.

Depends on the deer. They all react differently.

I have a few pictures of the big guy I posted earlier in this thread all within that same area on a few homebrews. Didn't phase him at all. Other deer will certainly be more skittish.

I prefer the "black flash" but run a mix of Red and Black. I will typically run the Black flash near stand sites and bedding areas and run the red over the travel routes, feeders, minerals etc.

I've got to be honest, in my over 20yrs running trailcams, I've had alot less deer spooked by white-flash than setting an IR camera in the video mode. With flash, white, IR, or black, it is not on long enough for most deer to notice. If the camera is in video mode though, they will notice. I've had many more deer freaked out by cameras in the video mode than anything else. Now if you're talking yotes or bobcats or other top-end predators, they won't tolerate either for very long. Just my experience.

    Blessings........Pastorjim

Nope. I never got a daylight photo of him. Most pictures were on scrapes right at our property line at the top of a draw. This was a few years ago now, so I doubt he is still around.

Well don't loose hope. I have seen on some hunting shows that certain deer may go missing off camera for a couple years and then show back up again. I don't know how high pressure your area is but hopefully he was smart enough to out smart the rest of the hunters in your area and just stay at night!

Definitely prefer white flash. And I've noticed deer don't seem to be bothered by the flash going off.

White flash is great at night for picture quality. Some deer don't like it. Most don't seem to mind.
