RIP Bobby The Brain Heenan. He was a troll before the internet, he could make a sweet old grandma hate him with the passion of a thousand suns. Bobby was a key figure in the true golden age of professional wrestling, one of the best interviews in the business. I was at the weasel suit bout against Greg Gagne in the old St Paul civic center in the late 70's, Bobby lost and Greg had to put the sleeper on him to get the suit on, then Bobby stumbled around the ring with the packed house chanting weasel, weasel, weasel (the only thing that drove Bobby nuts), jeering, and laughing at him. I am sure he was loving it on the inside.
The 80s were a great time to be alive! Long live old school wrestling. My buddies and I would watch and then try out all the moves on each other at school. Flipping each other all over the place and I don't remember a teacher saying anything to us at recess. Lol Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
SAME!!!! we had daily matches at recess! Did the same thing in high school when our shop teacher would leave!
There is a great story on the Minneapolis Star Tribune witten by my favorite sports writer Patrick Ruesse. The wrestling bout known as the weasel suit match happens in 1980. Bobby was a genius, people would buy signs to hold up mocking Bobby calling his the weasel at wrestling cards. During the weekly TV show Bobby would tell all the idiots that he did not want to see any of the weasel signs at the bout. Because people hated Bobby they would buy the signs, turns out bobby would have the signs made and had a guy selling them at the arena. The guy was a genius.
I sort of miss the "Old Time" wrestlers of the 80's. The new wrestlers just don't have the same draw that the oldtimers used to. Maybe it's the way they market the entertainment world now. Notice I did not say wrestling, because it isn't !!!
I just scored an 8x10 autographed bobby heenen pic. I found a video last night of bobby mocking the poor slob viking fans waiting for the loser vikings to ever get it done and that was from 1975 and still has not got done the photo will be on the wall of the Packer bunker.
