Anyone have one? I've got a few .22s but want to get something that I can customize and it looks like this is the route to go. Figured i'd see if anyone has any experience with the gun itself or building/customizing one.
I have one and I decked it all out. It has a bull barrel, thumb hole stock, and I did a lot of upgrades to the trigger with aftermarket parts. I have had nothing but problems with the trigger. I am pretty sure I know what the issue is and I have the part to fix it, just need to find the time. Good luck and be careful. You can spend as much as you want to customize these things. If I could have all the money back I put into this thing I would buy a bolt action .223 instead. Maybe I will feel different if I ever get the thing to shoot right. I'll see if I can find a picture of it
I’ve been looking at .22 rifles a bunch recently because I dont have one yet. From what I’ve read and watched on YouTube. The 10/22 is the way to go if you want to customize more. I’m pretty set on getting a marlin model 60 with the wood stock. I like the looks of it over the synthetic stock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I believe that but i've already got a bolt action .223 and have a lot more uses for a .22 here in SW MN. I'd love to see a picture if you can find one!
I will try and take a picture tonight, cant seem to find one on my phone. Maybe it will inspire me to fix the trigger return spring and be done with it.
I have several 10/22's. I have carried them in all sorts of weather and have even taken a couple swimming. I've added barrels, triggers and stocks. I have yet to be able to kill one and I have definitely tried to wear them out.
I have one that my dad bought for "me" when I was 3 years old...that would make it over 30 years old; let's just say that. In probably well over 10,000 rounds before it actually got into my hands at about 25 years later; that gun had never been properly cleaned. The exterior and the internal action, but never the barrel. My dad just did not have a .22 cleaning kit. As much lead as was in that barrel it was probably more like a .21 smoothbore by the time I got it. That being said- other than a scope that I put on it; it's bone stock and while I did run a ton of solvent down the barrel I didn't do anything extra to it, and it shoots great. Probably just a half inch over MOA. Rarely malfunctions unless you are using high velocity HPs. It doesn't cycle those well at all. But then again, that's a specific example in a 30+ yo gun.
I took a few pictures for you last night. Sorry for the crappy pics, trying to hide the messy kitchen in the background. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
If I recall it is a Green Mountain fluted bull barrel. I don't recall the length but I think it was the longest one they made at the time. Originally I was going to paint the receiver and the flutes in the barrel the same color but never got around to it. I've had this thing for probably 8 years, has about 50 rounds through it. Would really like to get this thing functional. If my fix doesn't work I am going to buy an aftermarket trigger group and be done with it. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
What size scope are you guys running on your .22? Is a rim fire scope necessary or is a regular scope fine? From what I understand the only real difference is the parallax setting at 50yards or 100yards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I had a regular 3x9x40 and everything up close was blurry. I bought the rimfire version and it is better but still not perfect. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Hmm. Okay. I was looking at the vortex crossfire 2 in 2-7x32 rim fire scope. Might just stick with this route. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would. No need to buy a scope that's rated for a .300 WinMag and 1000 yards for a gun that only shoots out to 100 yards and gives loves taps rather than sledgehammer hits. Also think of it this way- it's a $200-500 gun. You don't need glass that's more expensive than the gun. I am currently running the Simmons 3x9x32 "22Mag" scope on mine. It's plenty of glass. Sure mine is mostly stock but the .22LR cartridge can only do so much.
I have a Marlin Model 60 as well, great little .22. My one and only complaint is the scope mount set up, it is dovetail only and in the past I have had problems keeping the scope in place. I see they make some better dovetail mounts these days that are a solid 4" long so that might be the way to go. Might have to tinker with that one now
