I didn't even rifle hunt this year and I'm glad I didn't. No one in our camp got anything and some only saw 1 or 2 deer on opening day. I'm not sure if we have a poacher problem or if the hunting regulations are catching up to us. We were much better off when we had the separate doe season after regular gun season. Since then it's all gone down hill.
Yes the over killing of doe is getting old. I buy as many tags I can and dont fill them so someone else cant. I hope they get that issue fixed. Myself and my hunting friends have been seeing way better buck hunting though. Love that, just wish we were seeing more deer during a sit.
Hey guys im new to this page but just figured id say hello to my fellow Pennsylvanians. Stay warm and get that shovel ready!
In Central Pa, Just wondering 2 things. (1)- There is not a whole lot on how to bowhunt mountains out there ie,, books, tv shows what info or experience do you have on how to hunt the mighty beast in the mountain, thinking on putting a book together on how to do it. (2) - Who went to the Great American Show this year and saw my treestand display (the one made of 6x8's) and what did you think and any ideas on what I can do to make it more ideal for bowhunters
Welcome and glad to have ya! 1-Yes that is a topic many are still learning. We have some guys here with great knowledge in that area, but if you can add more thats even better! 2-I personally missed the show this year sadly. Hope some others can chime in though for ya!
My dad lives in Jeannette PA and he was wondering how far off the road you have to be. Hes been seeing alot of blinds right off the road so close he could throw a rock at it. Thanks
Im assuming you mean on public land. I normally like to get as deep in the woods as I can. But there are places close to roads that get over looked and can be good also. Spending time out there learning the ground is key. The more time you spend hunting and scouting it the better youll get!
Been scouting some public, but all of it has fairly easy access to other hunters, so not sure if Ill be hunting there or not. Been trying to balance scouting with improving my own land. So far I'm way behind due to all this damn snow. I'll be focusing on fly fishing soon enough though. The doe population on our property and surrounding is a little too high. Been trying to keep tabs so we will see how it looks by spring.
