    Alright people,

I just got a sony handycam from my buddy for 30 dollars. His wife works at a school and they were selling them so he picked one up for me. I'm just trying this out learning the basics. The camera comes with a cord to connect to the TV, extra battery, a USB cord, the charger and the bag. I understand this one is a little outdated but I hope to get some use out of it.

The plan is to create some small videos so I can learn to edit and film. I downloaded Movie maker to learn some simple techniques. Now for those of you that have used this program, do you know why when I upload a video from this camera I get no video and only audio?

The video is all black? Is there a way to fix this?

What model is your handy cam and how are you importing the video?

DCR-SR45 is the model number. I was just connecting USB to the PC and choosing the file in Movie Maker.

Try this and see if it works for you. I suspect the native import does not support the codec or format of the video.

Yup, Movie Maker hates alot of video formats for Handycams. I used a video converter when using Movie Maker.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'll try to figure it out. I figured it was a compatibility issue.

Does it take SD cards? If so, just remove the card and put in your computer and upload the videos. That's what I do. I have a Sony CX 220 and Movie Maker. Be sure to upload to your computer, then up load to Movie Maker from the computer, not the SD card.
