So being crazy tired up till 12-1 every night then 4:30a.m. has me zombied. Posting in wrong year thread , not moving them.. Well I finished all spraying on upper fields just got in. Discovered the bears been hanging out up here. Moving through that field enough to dump in 3 different areas. There is a ton of food up here and some noisy birds. Big red fox ran out of the corn field next door headed to neighbors across the street.
Now if the winds cooperate in the morning I'll finish up down in the tree plot and one small area around the oak flats. After that we have 3-4 days of raIn and I'll lay down the fertilizer a bit more lime in spots and disc it in very lightly. Just enough to scratch in the surface. Then the rye goes down and I'll run the harrow over it. Usually weight it but don't want it too deep. I need to get it mixed good with soil due to turkey, crow, and a zillion song birds.
I just may get it all done go figure...weather permitting.

Lol no rain, rain, no rain, rain
Now in the no rain so before winds pick up I'll strap on that 45# back pack sprayer and get the tree plot finished. You know the moment I do...it will rain

I reseeded the bare spots in my plot with winter rye because they said it was going to rain, guess what…. Hopefully in a few days there’s another chance.

    No thoughts yet?
Well I just did a Mario Andredi(sp?) around the plot with an unweighted harrow. Will now go down and run some winter rye and a few oats over it. A week early for that but no rain and higher temps are due to arrive. We have rain in the forecast today and one or two more times this week
Lots of "trash" and still some green grass clumps but no time to wait for a complete kill down.

The rape won’t hurt, but like you mentioned it might not have much growth

I was able to spread a 1:1 rye oats around all the blinds and most of the plot trees before I had to take hubby to pick up his truck and then make dinner. The rain went around us so maybe I can get the upper plots disc's upped tomorrow morning lay down some seed and fertilizer.

Of course I've seen nothing but rabbits, fox and raccoon until I'm putting down grain. 10 turkey crossed plot at Rivers blind...lol

So looks like the 2a.m. Rain did a no show as well. Been up since 4a.m. when a pack of yotes stood 60ft off our deck where A. J. Was sitting waiting to come back in. The group howls they released put us both on edge and A. J. Wildly barking. It wasn't until hubby let loose did they move off. That was WAY TOO CLOSE!!!! He confirmed what I've said there are at least 5 maybe 6 of them.

Yeppers my hunting strategies have now changed. This is an aggressive pack. I'd say as bad as the ones that stalked me many years ago and pulled our 4 H goats out of the barn 40 ft from the house in broad day light.

Had disc regresased and upper plots...mostly... done . I then grabbed AJ. Seed and fertalizer to finish planting the lower plots. Did drop rape seed just around blind areas and Ocha seed as an experiment. Chestnuts are just packed.
Had lunch and headed out to drag upper plots.

Was going to attempt finishing later but hubby's late getting home. Will finish tomorrow. Same as lower plots oats and rye around stands and blinds rye every where else with a rape tossing over about half of it.

    Give er hell OND.
I'm worried my brassicas are gonna fail.
Came up great but it's been dry since and really no rain chances next 10 days.
    Already showing signs of wilting.
Picked up 3 bags of rye today, 11.50$ per 54# bag to have on standbys.

Speaking of rain...should have finished last night because it finally rained. Looked at forecast this morning. Next rain 8 days away. That's not the problem though temps starting Sunday high 80's to mid 90's going into Hunting on Sept 9th....60's at night.

That's not good for anything but my peppers and pumpkins
Speaking of, will probably only get a couple thanks to the rabbits munching off young ones. Lost 4 so far. The size of tennis balls. I do have a nice green soccer ball sized one though. I need to invest in a fencing company...lol

Good luck with the plots BNB I know the work they take, even though it's "fun" work.

Done, all upper plots finished a couple of new deer only paths were limed heavy and seeded. Beause I added oats and rye to some areas I was able to hold back 50#'s of rye for seed over in mid Sept. Incase oats didn't do well, I underestimated the first spread or to resweeten with new growth for later hunting.
I assume I'll have competition from the bean field behind us. They are shell beans and should be harvested very soon. . They usually winter grain plant after.
    BTW
I spotted 3 buck at 11a.m. out eating in that field. Too far away to see any size just out line of racks. Also sparing by two so shedding seems to have started. That or they were teasing each other. Wish they were a lot closer but they are hugging the center.

Remember that ryegrass, rape, clover spring plot I put in? Pages 5. It was questioned as far as rye grass. Nice and thick and green all summer. Dead as can be with some rape still trying and the clover still small but setting it's roots. That said none of the previous weeds. I threw rye grain over it and did allow the poke weed to grow...it's doing great. The rye grass added a root system to the soil that held in some of the spring/ summer down pours. Bare soil washes down hill fast here. It's rot will continue on to feed the clovers
