What is your guys take on hunting in the rain? I understand a lot of people don't like the idea of getting wet, or just use it as an excuse. In my opinion I love hunting rainy or overcast days, with or without a tree umbrella. Do you guys avoid hunting in the rain, tough it out or stay dry with an umbrella?
Never really had this happen. Drizzle or shower wouldn't be too bad. But it would muffle the sounds of deer, etc. I would think that a real toad strangler would put game in a sheltered place. Looking for others to reply. Good question!
I have always had really good luck in the rain. I was walking in to my stand last year and got about 20 yards from a crotch horn, the rain must have muffled his hearing just enough for me to sneak up on him. Busted me on the drawback. But I agree, pouring rain makes it hard to justify going out, with shelter or not, but the slightest amount of rain makes getting out of bed in the morning much easier for me.
I enjoy hunting in a mild rain. I'm just not a fan of trying to trail a deer as the blood trail is being washed away. Last deer I killed was in rain, and even though I made a lethal shot, and quite a bloody mess where I first shot him, the trail was washed away after about 60 yards. I fortunately I found him about 30 yards after last blood. Things worked out, but if I had pushed him because I was hurrying to find him before the blood washed away I might not have found him in time.
I like to still hunt in the light rain. I've had very good success with the quiet ground. No if it is pouring rain. Hard to blood trail but if you make good shots it shouldn't be a big issue.
I have a strict rule that I never hunt in the rain. I'm just concerned that i would lose the blood trail if I didn't find the animal right away. That's just me though. Blessings...........Pastorjim
love a light rain, heavy rain im not crazy about, ill set up with a tree umbrella that I rigged up to stick it out if its going to pass though. I always end up with a headache after hunting with or after rain since Im trying to "listen harder"
When I was younger I hunt in the rain, as long as there wasn’t high winds or torrential down pours. Now that I’m older I don’t do rain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
The wind is usually the only thing that makes me skeptical. The rain not so much, but the wind can make or break a hunt for sure.
They say some of the best movement may be right after a rainshower, so be in the stand when it's raining and they'll move when it's over. Doesn't bother me at all unless there is lightning or just crazy weather. The right gear will make all the difference in the world for you.
I hate hunting in the rain and will avoid it if possible. That being said, when I take a week off to spend at elk camp and it rains I will go out if it isn't the type of rain that just makes all the game brush up.
Killed my biggest buck right after a storm. The storm lasted about 45 mins I kept telling myself of you sit thru it it’s gonna happen. Right after it rained I grunted and 30 seconds later he was five yards from my tree
Some years it rains for days in a row. I'm not missing out on hunting bc of the rain. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Get you a nice packable rain suit. You can find them on midway USA , sportsmansguide etc. cheap and worth the money.
People are getting to be pussies!! Do we like getting wet/ cold? No. But..... I have hunted in every weather situation we get here. No fun but if I were to have limited time each year, hell yeah! Can't recall iffn I've shot a deer during a downpour but have shot piles during a light rain/ drizzle.
