Hey guys just wanting to get some fellow bow hunters opinions on G5 Broadheads. I recently picked up a pack of the Montecs on sale for 5 bucks but I have never shot a fixed head. Just trying to get some opinions, advice, or reviews from people who have shot the Montec or another fixed broad head from G5. Don’t know much about G5 but for $5 I figured I couldn’t turn them down. Are they junk or a good head, how do they fly, what kind of blood trails did you see, etc... Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Where on sale for $5 ? At that price I'd be worried about counterfeits. Montecs are widely regarded as a premium fixed head for ease of re-sharpening, durability, accuracy, and penetration. Their main drawback is small diameter but that increases penetration so take your pick as to what's more important. I don't shoot them personally but many people do and love them. I've tested them and they flew great out to 80 yards.
That was my concern too as far as being counterfeits. I got them on eBay. When I got them they are still in the hard plastic clam shell and don’t show any sign of being cut open. I know some people may have access to a sealer so don’t know. I’m hoping they fly well. I’ve been shooting mechanicals for about 7 years and just wanted to try something different this season. I definitely appreciate the input!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I always have G5 montecs and slick trick magnums in my quiver. I like the slick tricks better but G5s are just so durable and resharpenable (carbon steel ones). I'd send a G5 to a hog any day. dnoodles is correct on all counts.... you gotta hit "the spot" cause it penetrates so hard it's just gonna make a tri-patterned hole but zip right through your target in most cases. All around I like them a lot. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I shot them this last season never had any feed back from my deer and they flew very consistent Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
If they're real they will fly true to POI with your field points. I've never known anyone to need to re tune for Montecs. But, send the vendor info and lot# in to G5 if you can. Honestly at that price on eBay they almost have to be counterfeits- I know G5 has had issues w/that in the past. "Too good to be true" price, bro.
dnoodles you may or may not know the answer but is there anyway of telling if they are counterfeits. They were still in the hard plastic clam shell but that doesn't mean someone on the streets could not have a machine that can re-seal it once it has been opened. Would there be any marking on the broad head itself. I haven't opened them yet but I can see a 100 engraved on the bottom of one of the blades. I'm sure that's for the weight of the head but I didn't know if they were any other markings or writing that would distinguish a real from a fake.
I don't think someone would take the time to make fake ones and place them in legit packages. More likely that the package would be fake also- I would take some pics of the packaging on you phone and then check a big box store for packaging. If it looks funny contact G5 via email and send them pics and any unique #s.
If they are g5s you will love them, I've bounced back and fourth and just keep going back to the g5s.
See if it had the weight stamped on the inside 100 for 100 gr. if it does I would say they are genuine although they could still counterfeit. They do fly well.
If it was that price, could be just that someone or some company is trying to move them. How many of us have things we bought, and are still unused years later?
I've used the Montec and Montec CS. They have flown great for me and the ease of re-sharpening is nice. I use them mostly for turkey hunting because I shoot them a lot and they end up in the dirt quite often. I also get more pass thru's with them rather than mechanicals on turkey. The CS will hold a bit better edge but for $5, I would have bought them too.
I had good results and no complaints with Montecs when shooting them from my Jennings bow but couldn't get them to tune from my Elite for some reason. Now that I've sold the Elite, I may give them another go. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
The grain structure and metallurgy of stainless makes it a little more difficult to sharpen than carbon steel, but once you have the edge, it's sharp...
I'm shooting G5 strikers 100g. Have not made a kill with them yet but as far as 3d target shooting they fly great same as my 100g field points
G5 had a video out showing counterfeits broadheads in a g5 package. It was on archerytalk a month or two ago.
