Have any of you ever hunted deer with field points? Accidentally or on purpose. If you did, did you shoot a deer and did you get a kill? I went and practiced with my son the other day, changed out my broad heads then came home and left them on. I got to my spot yesterday evening and realized I didn't change them back. Decided to stay and sit in stand but not shoot any if something came by. Nothing came by, plus every 15 minutes for the last hour a combine rolled past my stand about 40 to 50 yards away. So let's hear your field point stories if you have any.
I stopped thinking fieldpoints could do anything when I shot a rabbit straight through the chest with one. He took off into his hole about 5 yards away & presumably died. I felt bad for wasting him. Unless I'm shooting pests, or birds I don't feel like it's right, especially when I can just get a metal washer, or a wire and make a mean small game head out of one. My very first doe that I shot, was with a field point, I had only one broadhead so when I shot my first shot with the broad head, I shot hi, she put her head down, I knock another arrow a field point of course, shot missed again hi, at that point I knew I didn't have a broad head, I took the shot and hit her on the shoulder, she took off running so fast down wind , then sprint on the opposite towards she came from first. bottom line was, I have never seen a deer running so fast in my life, we look for that doe and never found it, this was back on 2012. I have been in and out of work so I have not kill a deer yet, this is going to be the season though. last year shot an 8 point on the gut and didn't find it, had a lot of close calls but I've gotten busted by deer or deer just don't show. I self taught most of what I know so we shall see this season that I actually have time. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
No no no never ever take a shot at a deer with a target head. Selfish act to do it don't hunt if you do not have the right equipment.
I saw a video once of a kid shooting a doe with field points. I think the first one spined her and he tried to finish her off with 2 or 3 more. There wasn't hardly any penetration and the poor deer looked like a pin cushion.
Anyone who shoots a deer with a field point should be tied to a tree and shot with a quiver full of field points. In each extremity Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I know a kid who bear hunted with field tips he shot it at least 5 times and then had to finish it off with his pistol because he ran out of arrows we chased that bear for a good mile every time we got close u could hear the bear suffering not only that the father was with the kid the whole time and allowed him to keep useing his field tips idk who was more in the wrong the kid or the father the kid was 14 or 15 Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums

There is not a place in the world that would not penalize any fool that would consider hunting with field points.
Uh, no......... I have separate practice arrows once I get into the season. The broadheads stay on until season is over.
I have identical arrows for practice and hunting (except for the FP and BH). I leave the ones in my quiver for hunting and use the others for practice so I don't run the risk of forgetting because it would probably happen. The fewer things I have to do to get ready to hunt the better.
It is definitely not okay to hunt big game with a field point. Or any target head for that matter. It doesnt really matter how effective it may be, it is just simply unethical. We as hunters need to respect the wild, and using a target head has a higher chance at simply wpunding an animal rather than kill it quickly and cleanly. Have to do your best to make it clean. Accidents happen, but dont let it be intentional Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
no field points... that is just enethical. we owe it to the game we hunt to put them down as quickly as possible. Period.
